Inside My Marc Jacobs Large Single

Happy Friday everyone! I can't believe another week has flown by. Some of you are probably wondering if I will ever get to responding to your comments on recent posts. It has been my intention to do so for the past week, but I've been short on time and sleep. I will do my best to catch up this weekend. This is kinda a lazy post but know many of you like to see what's inside my bag. I was able to fit a ton of stuff inside my Marc Jacobs Large Single in Beige from last spring (see my grey one from this fall modeled here). Those wondering where you can find the beige one - it's probably very hard to find at this point since it was released about a year ago. However there is some good news! The MJ Resort Collection has another beige version which seems less pink and more cream colored but I haven't seen it so I can't confirm. You can see it on The Purse Forum's Marc Jacobs Resource section.

The Large Single is a lovely purse but I think I will have to stop using it for work. The handle is on the delicate side and while it is sturdy, it doesn't seem to be designed to support a heavy bag. If I do use it for work I'll have to carry a lighter load by limiting my makeup to a lipstick and powder, perhaps one more small compact. (If you scroll down you will see I have my Paul & Joe makeup bag crammed full with way too much stuff.)

What I fit inside:

I love how the Spring 2010 Beige version has the slightest hint of pink to it.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Look of the Day Inspired By My Daily Reads & Readers

Today's look is inspired from a few of my favorite daily reads and readers. The bits of inspiration include the following:

Today's Look: Summer Casual

Top: J.Crew Perfect-Fit Stripe Boatneck (S)
Shorts: J.Crew
Sandals: Tory Burch
Purse: Chanel
Guest Puppy Appearance: Mr. Jake

Makeup of The Day:

Face: Chanel Sunkissed Illuminator
MAC Refined Golden Bronzer
MAC Dollymix Blush

Eyes: Paul & Joe Eye Gloss 05
Bobbi Brown Seashell Shimmerwash
MAC Naked Dark Pigment (swatches here)
Bobbi Brown Java Metallic Eyeshadow
(Java comparisons)

Lips: MAC Dervish
Paul & Joe Liplacquer 06

Brushes Used:

Eye look was a smokey taupe, here's how:
  • Step 1: Apply Paul & Joe Eye Gloss in Murmur 05 on lids (for asian eyes, 1/2 way up eye from lash to middle of eye, heavier near lash line)

  • Step 2: Apply Bobbi Brown Java Metallic from lash to 1/2 way up lid for a smokey eye, also heavier near lash line

  • Step 3: Apply MAC Naked Dark Pigment over center of eye to blend out any harsh lines from the darker shades

  • Step 4: Apply Bobbi Brown Seashell Shimmerwash from brow downwards softly to create a subtle highlight

  • Step 5: Curl lashes and apply mascara

Nails of the Day: Chanel Django & Nouvelle Vague

The mani/pedi combo:

I'm surprised that I'm liking the blue nail polish! FYI - the Jcrew top seems to run a bit small. I'm normally an XS in their shirts but found it to be a bit too snug. Or perhaps I just have been having too many sugary drinks and gained weight.

Feedback appreciated! Too much info in one post? Is the look too casual to write about? Would you style the top differently? I like that it can be dressed up a little with a nice skirt or dress pants. But it's nice as a loungy-carefree-top too. Being in Southern California - my daily style is pretty casual.

I already did a lip swatch and EOTD attempt - neither turned out decent this morning. I'll try and feature the Paul & Joe Lip Lacquer by itself in another post in the near future.

Weekend Look of the Day: J.Crew White Ruffled Tank & Skirt

How was everyone's weekend? The weather here in Southern California has been a bit odd the past few days - at least by the beach. Sunny bits here and there and then mostly cloudy. This was Sunday's outfit/look.

Top: J.Crew ruffle tank
Skirt: J.Crew white denim mini
Belt: J.Crew patent burgandy skinny belt
Shoes: Prada flats
Purse: Chanel

I didn't plan to have mostly J.Crew on - but it seems to happen more often these days, although I do have to say it's with their older pieces from past seasons. I love how comfortable the ruffle top is, but unfortunately, if it's not tucked in or tied with a belt over, then it looks like a huge tent.

Face:
NARS Beverly Hills + South Beach Multiples mixed on cheeks
MAC Getaway Bronze Blush on top

Eyes:
Clinique Seashell Cream Shadow as a base
NARS India Song Duo
MAC Orpheus Eyeliner

Lips:
NARS Beverly Hills + South Beach mixed/dabbed on lips
MAC Love Nectar Lustreglass + Beach Lounger Lipglass mixed

I'm really loving those Multiple Tints from NARS (see my review of 2 of them here NARS Beverly Hills & Cadaques Multiple Tints = Pure Genius). Beverly Hills pulls more bright pink than red on my skin for some reason, but I still like it. Works well dabbed on lips for a slight tint. I liked it mixed a little with South Beach. I mixed the two on the back of my hand first and then applied on the lips. For cheeks, I swiped Beverly Hills on each cheek then South Beach on top and blended quickly with the fingers.

Also wanted your opinions: for the Chanel - is this something I can still pull off or is it totally OUT of style? It's an older one, I don't think Chanel makes the line anymore - at least definitely not the brown-on-brown. It's just been sitting in my closet for ages. I keep forgetting to bring it out. Input would be greatly appreciated :)

Today's Look: Tarnished Steel Silk Ribbon Tank + Grey Eyes + Pink Lips/Cheeks

So today I decided I would branch out a bit and show you more of my whole look - basically what makeup items I picked to coordinate with my outfit of the day. I didn't have much on today's agenda except for a lunch date with friends and a few errands to run (yes, I know it's a rough life being on school break).

I know some of you prefer I stick to writing about makeup and after this post, I think I will. I suppose one benefit of this is that you can see a bit more of my style which you might say doesn't exist. I tend to be very basic and simple with my clothing, not the most creative or fun, but it's what I feel comfortable with so it works for me. My makeup tends to reflect my clothing style as well: simple and natural looking. For reference, I am petite at 5'3". So much for trying to be a little creative, but here goes.

The outfit of the day:
  • Silk Ribbon Pleated Shell in Tarnished Steel from Banana Republic
  • Thin Cashmere White Cardigan from Jcrew (this is from over a year ago, so no link)
  • Paige Hollywood Hills Jeans
  • Quilted black purse/tote
  • Black strappy sandals from Banana Republic (from about 3 years ago, so no link)

The face of the day items used include:

Cheeks
MAC Golden Bronzer
Paul & Joe Face Color 001

Eyes
MAC Bare Study
Bobbi Brown Galaxy Cream Eyeshadow
Dolce & Gabbana Champagne Quad
Dolce & Gabban Stromboli Eyeliner
Diorshow mascara

Lips
Bobbi Brown Ballet Pink Lipliner
Chantecaille Camelia Lipchic
Paul & Joe Lip Lacquer 06

The products against the steel grey tank
(not recommended since I almost dropped my lipstick on my dry-clean only tank)

Swatched on bare skin

One more view

I used all four shades in the Dolce & Gabbana Champagne quad and really liked the result. I applied MAC Bare Study Paint Pot first all over the lid, then dusted the light lilac-gold shade from lash line to the middle of the eyelid. I then put the dusty brown mixed with the black smudged along upper lash line blended upwards. Dolce & Gabbana Stromboli was lined and smudged over upper lash line as well with the black shadow reapplied on top for extra definition.

MAC Golden Bronzer was applied on the cheeks like blush with the Paul & Joe 001 Face Color dusted lightly as a highlighter and to give a bit of pink to the cheeks.

The lips were a neutral healthy pink. Overall, I was happy with the result. FYI the Dolce & Gabbana quads have the best pigment that I've tried, they just don't swatch well on a bare arm without any moisturizer or makeup base. I hope the swatches won't deter you from checking out their quads!
