Loving Right Now + Weekend Reads

I hope everyone had a great week. I spent the last couple days in Los Angeles to visit with family, preview the new Hourglass store in Venice Beach and meet up with Edward Bess at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills. I'm a bit behind on reviews but am working all weekend editing and photographing for posts to be published this week. Right now I'm in love with (left to right):

  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette is one of my holy grail powder highlighter palettes with three shades of their Ambient Lighting Powders in Dim Light, Incandescent Light (exclusive to palette) and Radiant Light, it is something I find perfect for travel and it works for both eyes and cheeks
  • Charlotte Tilbury Blondie Lip Lustre is the perfect soft pale pink that doesn't wash out the complexion, lasts for hours and is also lovely as a layering color
  • NARS Anita Audacious Lipstick has been in frequent rotation as a good neutral rose pink
  • NARS Himalia and Subra Dual Intensity Eyeshadows are my go-to shades when I want something easy to wear that goes with just about any color of lip/cheek or clothing (if you just get one, Himalia is a must-check-out)
  • Tatcha Travel-Sized Beauty is my latest obsession, their minis of Beauty Oil and Classic Rice Enzyme Powder Cleansers are what I bring with me on weekend getaways (the packaging of the travel sizes are just as good in design and quality as the full size, huge plus for me)
  • Guerlain Waterproof Mascara has been a must-have all summer for volumizing and holding the curl, I just bought my second tube of it
  • Kat Von D Ink Liner is my everything for liquid liners right now
  • L'Artisan Mure et Musc is my favorite scent of the moment, I just purchased my second bottle after my last one accidentally broke (I knocked it off my desk and it shattered)
  • Edward Bess All Over Seduction is my holy grail cream highlighter, some asked me for a recommendation on a liquid/cream version that doesn't interfere with foundation if you put it on top, this one is THE one to try (Sunlight shown above, but I also adore Afterglow the darker peachy bronze version)
  • Formula X Remarkable Translucent Nail Polish is the perfect pale sheer (swatches soon)
Some weekend reads and videos I think are worth a look:

What are you loving this weekend? P.S. I'm behind on responding to comments and e-mails, I'll be responding as soon!

Weekend Reads / Link Love

Above: Prada Marfa photo by Gray Malin, tray by West Elm, candles by Diptyque in Vanille and Le Redouté, leather catchall by Pottery Barn, book Yves Saint Laurent

I hope everyone has been having a nice weekend. We're experiencing a heat wave in Southern California so I'm trying to stay indoors to keep cool. This upcoming week I'll have some posts on a few foundations I've been testing along with some skincare loves. (After several weeks of another skin flare up episode, my skin has finally started to clear up again and return back to its normal state.) I spent Saturday morning with Beauty Professor at the Neiman Marcus Project Beauty event and will be sharing what I purchased at the event soon. I'm also still working my way through my Charlotte Tilbury reviews so stay tuned. I wasn't happy with my initial photographs on the eyes/cheeks so I've had to reshoot the product photos which is why it's been taking forever to publish.

I wanted to share a new addition to our home (non-beauty related). I just received my first Gray Malin print which I ordered from the Labor Day sale event (they had free shipping and free framing). I picked one of his Prada Marfa prints and couldn't be happier. I have so many of his prints on my wish list. (You can also find some of his work on sale at One King's Lane.) Be sure to visit his Lifestyle Blog for inspiration.

Some weekend reads and videos I'm loving right now:
  • I'm living vicariously through others to see what on backstage during NYFW, I'm dying over this neutral NARS palette featured on the @narsissist instagram
  • @marcbeauty posted this sneak peek of a nail polished used on the models at their SS15 show, I'm wish I knew what the color was called, anyone have any ideas?
  • Garance Doré x NARS has a really cute video on the new Audacious Lipsticks
  • Love this video on The Man Repeller with Jenna Lyons (NARS also included)
  • Paris on Four Months has some exquisite work she has done for Dior (love love love!!)
  • Temptalia gives us a first look at YSL's new Blush Volupte in Singuliere
  • Front Row Beauty has swatches of Chanel's VFNO Sweet Star Le Vernis (I'm hoping this color of nail polish will eventually make its way to the US)
  • Messy Wands has some helpful skincare tips on how to deal with a sunburn
  • The Non-Blonde shares her top perfume picks for fall (I've made notes)

Monthly Favorites | Skincare, Haircare, Body and Fragrance

Several have requested a monthly favorites round up - welcome to The Beauty Look Book's first monthly favorites feature! I wanted to feature some midsummer beauty favorites for the skin, body and hair. Many of these items are things I've been using all summer long.
  • Caudalie Make-up Removing Cleansing Water is a gentle lightweight cleansing water that refreshes the skin. It won't remove waterproof eye makeup or mascara all the way, but I like this for the face. I have this in the full size as well but like to keep the small travel sizes.
  • Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse has been a favorite this summer for dry body oils. (Three I tested here.) I alternate between this and the Caudalie Divine Oil, but lately I've been reaching more for the Nuxe, the fresh floral beach-like scent is perfect for summer. It layers nicely with most perfumes as it's very gentle and not overpowering. I love that the skin absorbs it quickly.
  • Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray is an alternative to dry shampoo. I've tried several and don't like the powdery crunchy look they give to the hair. The Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray is the only one I've tried that doesn't leave any residue. It's more of a texturizing spray that I like to use on days where my hair looks a bit flat. I love all things Oribe that I've tried it's a brand I keep exploring and looking into. The signature Oribe scent is incredible.
  • St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse is a new discovery this year and it is hands down my favorite self tan product. I purchased the mini size to compare it to the Gradual an Everyday Body Lotion from Sephora. I tested each one simultaneously with the mousse on one leg and the lotion on the other. The mousse gives a better tan without being orange. The lotion has a more gradual darkening effect. The tint to the mousse also helps you see where you applied product and helps as a guide for even application. It didn't stain or transfer to white sheets and after letting it set for 10 minutes I found it didn't transfer to a white denim skirt. I applied it for two consecutive days and my tan will last about 5 days. I have super sensitive skin and I've gotten allergic reactions to spray tans and other self tan products (like Clarins).
  • First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser was sent for review and it is an amazing cleanser. It has red clay which is suppose to draw out toxins, remove oil and unclog pores. It's designed for combination or oily skin. My skin is slightly combination, dry on the cheeks area and slightly oily in the T zone. I found this to be amazing at unclogging pores. It comes with a slightly gel-like texture that is a reddish pink with a pearly shimmer. It works well with the hands, a washcloth and my Clarisonic Aria. It's gentle enough for my sensitive skin but very effective. I'm on my second tube.
  • Tom Ford Mandarino di Amalfi is one of Tom Ford's latest, it's one of two new scents that are an extension of the Neroli Portofino line. I can't wear a lot of orange citrus scents but Tom Ford is the only one I can pull off. It's the perfect summertime scent with citrus, florals and musk.
  • Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream is something I bought from the Flower Power Kit (has the Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream in 1 oz, Rose Face Mask in 1 oz, Sugar Tulip and Rose Floral Toner 0.5 oz). I love this lightweight face cream for hydration. It's too heavy for me right now for daily use but I like to use it 2x per week during the day and alternate this as a night cream. It has a refreshing cucumber scent and feels amazing on the skin. It makes the skin look refreshed and improves the overall skin tone by smoothing over time and is great for calming the skin.
  • MAC Cleanse Off Oil has been my favorite go-to for removing makeup at the end of the day. I did a roundup of several oils I tested and the MAC is one I keep reaching for because it has the best emulsifying quality and gets everything off without leaving a residue or drying out the skin.
  • Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask is something I tried with the mini pods first. I liked it so much I bought the full size. It's a mask that really works and clears pores. It has a slight tingly effect the first few minutes but it goes away. The charcoal and white clay both work to draw out pore-cloggers. I've used it up to 3x per week when my skin was messed up. I don't recommend using it if you have broken skin or areas with irritation, but it is a gentle enough mask that won't sting your skin.
  • Malin+Goetz Lip Moisturizer is my summer favorite for a relative inexpensive lip balm with a nice lightweight gel formula. It's super effective without being too rich or heavy for summer.
  • L'Occitane Extra Gentle Lotion for Hands and Body has been a staple for me for years. It's the only body lotion I've repurchased. It has a super lightweight feel that absorbs into the skin. It's part of the Shea Butter line and is moisturizing and soothing.
  • Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil Primer was a Sephora freebie. It's a pre-styler product that I apply to the hair before blow drying and it helps smooth the hair, decreases frizz and protects it from heat styling. It smells absolutely amazing like coconut and vanilla. It adds softness and shine without weighing down the hair.
  • L'Occitane Frisson de Verveine Hand Cream Gel is a great alternative to regular hand creams for the summer. It's a unique hand moisturizer that absorbs into the skin really quickly. It has an interesting dry down that's smooth and soothing with a slight velvety feel. It comes in the new Frisson Verbena scent which is a lightweight summery lime. One tube was sent for review and I've already purchased a second one.
  • Tatcha Aburatorigami Beauty Papers are the perfect blotting papers for me. They are compact and easy to carry in the purse. I love how they are super absorbent without having any powdery residue. I use about one sheet with every use and it's so much better than touching up with powder mid-day or late afternoon. Sometimes with the summer heat and humidity I've found adding powder to oily skin can get cakey (at least on me).
  • Chanel UV Essential Anti-Pollution Broad Spectrum SPF 50 is the only face sunscreen I like to use. It's lightweight and absorbs into the skin quickly. I like to layer serum with moisturizer under my foundation but I don't like anything that feels heavy. This sunscreen is light enough to wear with both a serum and moisturizer and foundation. It's suitable for my sensitive skin. It also comes with an SPF 20 and SPF 30 versions as well.

Today's Summer Details

A few summer details today: 1) Banana Republic Striped Timeless Tee (similar here and here) has been a weekly go-to, it's versatile enough to wear with a number of different outfits. It goes with casual jeans, shorts and capris, you can also dress it up with a pencil skirt and pumps, or layer a blazer.

2) Nude pink sunglasses are one of my weaknesses, these are some old ones by Chanel that come with small frames (rare find). Continuing the nude-pink theme,  3) Tom Ford Tawny Pink Lipgloss and 4) Spanish Pink Lipstick are staples for the perfect nude pink pout. I love that there's a hint of nude and peach in these but they don't wash out my complexion. The lightness contrasts with a tan but it's not too sharp. (Tawny Pink looks like it's sold out online, Rose Crush is very similar.)

For the perfect glow 5) Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders are my favorite powder highlighters, I keep reaching for them and they seem to last forever (even with regular use I have barely made a dent). Luminous Light is shown above. Radiant Light is another favorite. Or if you want more options check out the Ambient Lighting Palette. They give the perfect candlelit glow.

6) Chanel Holiday Le Vernis is an oldie but goodie. I'm surprised it's still available since it was released quite a while ago. I rarely match tips and toes with the same colors but for this one I'll make an exception. See it compared to Chanel Mirabella.

I'm a minimalist when it comes to jewelry. I love the looks my friends can create with creative layering but I always feel like I can't pull it off. For me, some simple layering includes stacking simple detailed pieces. I've been loving my 7) Celine Rose Gold knot cuff stacked with 8) Gorjana Mila Hexagon Cuff (c/o) and any 9) Hermes Enamel Bracelet for some color. Gorjana has great visuals for bracelet layering ideas that are easy to pull off. I've been very inspired from browsing their site - be sure to check out the Gorjana x Happily Grey collaboration with curated picks.

I'm obsessed with open toe sandals, these 10) Banana Republic tan sandals fit perfectly and didn't break the bank. It sold out online months ago but I've spotted them instore.

Last but not least, I've fallen head over heels with 11) Tom Ford Mandarino di Almafi which is an extension of the Neroli Portofino line. I'm not typically a fan of citrus orange scents on me (I adore them on others). The ones by Tom Ford are the only citrus scents I feel like I can wear. It's a refreshing summery fruity scent. My local Neiman Marcus sold out of it but they were able to order it for me. More detailed review to come soon.

Not beauty-related but I need to give a quick rave about two Nordstrom-Anniversary Sale items:
  • These Nike Legend Capris are amazing, they are super flattering for workout bottoms, they hold everything in but aren't too tight, I might get a second pair because the price is so good

Date Night Details

I have a quick moment to share a snapshot of some details for tonight's date with my husband. It's a warm summery evening which calls for a lightweight dress and open-toe sandals. I'm keeping everything simple with a few accessories as accents:

Dress - Iro (old)
Sandals - Banana Republic (sold out online but I've spotted them in stores)
Purse - Prada Saffiano (small)
Eyes - NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadows in Himalia and Subra
Cheeks - NARS Matte Multiple in Vientiane
Perfume - Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black (beauty insider mini)
Bracelet - Hermes

I spent a good part of the day swatching the new Fresh Sugar Shines, Dolce & Gabbana Nail Polish and Chanel highlighter. I hope to get some editing done tonight to have posts up soon. I've also received a lot of requests about the cute little Fujifilm that I have been featuring. I'll work on a review on it as well and share the research I did to decide which brand/version to go with (there are quite a few options out there!).

I hope you are enjoying the weekend with some relaxation and fun!

Loving Right Now / Beauty Preview

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Right now I'm loving Diptyque Feu de Bois and Lumira Tahitian Coconut for the home. For lips I've been obsessed with Tom Ford In the Buff Sheer Lip Color - it is the perfect soft nude for me, most of the colors from the spring collection are sold out but you can still find this one at NordstromNeiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman (Bergdorfs has a beauty GWP going on).

I attended a small Chanel event at my local Neiman Marcus a few weeks ago and the artist used Chanel Utopia Illusion d'Ombre all over the lids with a bit of Chanel Les Beiges No. 40 as a contour and a black liner. It was so simple but really pretty and polished. Since then I've been wearing Utopia almost every other day. I've also found myself wearing Chanel Les Beiges powders on the face on a daily basis. I use No. 20 for a soft setting powder and darker ones in No. 30 and 40 to add warmth and contour (swatches of all three from last year here). The summer Multi-Colour No. 02 is also a new favorite for bronzing. It's listed as limited-edition on Chanel.com so I will definitely need to get a backup.

For a quick preview on what will be coming soon on The Beauty Look Book, I purchased some items from Chanel Fall. Shown above are the three Le Vernis Nail Colors in Secret, Atmosphere and Orage, Glossimer in Rose Reve. I'm also working on swatches of Burberry's two new Sheer Eyeshadows in Storm Grey #27 and Graphite #28 (they're listed as being on backorder on Nordstrom, but I ordered one and it shipped right away, another option is to call one of the Burberry counters, Nordstrom San Francisco has both).

Last preview is that Tatcha has launched several Travel Sized Mini skincare items for sale. They sent me the mini oil for review (feature soon) and I've already ordered three other items to take with me for an upcoming trip. They are perfect for travel or to try something out before committing to the full size.

For non-beauty loves, I'm loving nude pinks for accessories. Also bookmarking lots of items in J.Crew's Style Guide for summer (have you checked out their blog?).

Stay tuned for the reviews soon!

Loving Right Now

A few things I'm loving right now include pinkish glosses such as Tom Ford Sahara Pink (swatched here) and NARS Belize. I've been reaching more for the swipe-and-go pencils and glossy lipsticks these days. I've re-fallen in love with NARS Gloss Pencil in Hopi (reviewed here).

For the eyes, I picked up a few more By Terry Ombre Blackstar Cream Eye Shadows and have been thoroughly impressed with the pigment and wear time. NARS has new Dual-Intensity Eyeshadows coming out July, I'll have two to share with you soon. (Pictured above is Europa). Still making it to my favorites list is Guerlain Maxi Lash Waterproof. It stays put, separates the lashes, thickens, volumizes and holds the curl. Let me know if you want a full review. Topshop Coal Eye Kohl Pencil has become a staple in my weekly makeup routine (review here). I love that it's a true black, applies very smoothly and stays put.

My skin has been acting up for the past few months because of a number of things. I've started running and that combined with weather changes and a bit of extra stress has turned everything upside down. I've started experimenting by adding a few extra steps to my skincare routine. I've found that using a cleansing oil such as MAC Cleansing Oil helps break down long-wear sunscreens and foundations. I've also been mixing up my serum routine with Chanel Le Jour and Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Firming Serum under my regular moisturizer. I alternate with these and my skin has improved in texture within the course of a week.

Also loving Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet for the perfect amount of coverage and just the right amount of matte finish.

I've also found myself reaching for Caudalie Hand and Nail Cream on a regular basis (review here). I alternate hand creams depending on what's closest to me or what's in my purse (I have various hand creams scattered around the house, car and desk). I like the fresh scent of Caudalie and the compact size is perfect for putting inside my makeup bag. Last but not least I got a Sephora Beauty Insider sample of the Elizabeth and James Nirvana White which is a pretty light floral. (It's still available online for redeeming and I spotted it in stores last week.) There's a new 1000 point perk online for VIB Rouge Members. Seeing as I only have 50 points, I don't think I will be getting it any time soon.

What are you loving right now? Did you discover anything new or fun over the weekend?

This post features some items sent as press samples from Topshop and NARS for consideration. All opinions are my own. For more information refer to my disclosures.

Loving This Week

This week I'm in love with Tatcha's Indigo Hand Cream and Caudalie's Divine Oil for extra moisture and hydration. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments in the mini sizes have found their way to my makeup bag on a regular basis lately as well for added moisture and quick touch ups. As my skin has started to clear up the Chanel Les Beiges Fluid No. 30 has started to be sufficient on its own (just with powder added) for a sheer evening base. As an update to my last review, I got a sample of No. 20 and found it to be a good match as well, just slightly too pink so No. 30 is a better match for me right now. Edward Bess Afterglow has remained a staple for me every day, I just used another one up and opened up a brand new one. Perfect as an eye base or highlight on the cheekbones. Another eye pencil I've been loving for an eye base is NARS Soft Touch Pencil in Iraklion as a good nude taupey cream base for powder eyeshadows. It's a lovely subtle neutral. Sephora Beauty Insider offerings are killing it this summer with the Elizabeth and James Nirvana minis (I'm seriously considering the full size of Nirvana Black). MAC Sharon Osbourne Lipglasses in Pussywillow and Bijou are my new must-haves (review to come soon, I think Bijou is backup worthy). I'm planning a mid-week nail polish change on my toes but can't decide between Dior Metal Montaigne or Incognito (do you ever do nudes on your toes?). Guerlain Cils d'Enfer in Waterproof Black is a new discovery thanks to The Raeviewer (be sure to check out her summer must-haves). I love it for lush thick defined lashes and the formula stays put all day long. Le Metier de Beaute Dark Orchid Kaleidoscope is a Neiman Marcus Camp Gorgeous Gift with Purchase Exclusive with a $250 LMdB purchase, I purchased items in store to get this, but just checked online to see it it was available. It's not listed in the beauty offers section but if you add items to your cart the gift will show up once you hit the qualifying amount (while supplies last). I wish Le Metier de Beaute would release more kaleidoscopes that weren't exclusives but I'm really happy to have this one.

Currently working my way through reviews of so many lipglosses that I've accumulated since May. Featured above are Marc Jacobs Overprotected and NARS Lipgloss in Istria, Belize, Sweet Dreams and Risky Business.
