Weekend Link Love

I hope everyone has been enjoying the weekend! We are having a heat wave in Southern California with temperatures in the high 80s, it's hard to imagine what fall will feel like with all this warmth. I'm working my way through some new products. I'm really excited to try the new Edward Bess Illusion Foundation and Longwear Lip & Cheek Stains. Also on my testing list have been the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipsticks, Lancome Audacity Eyeshadow Palette and the Molton Brown Ylang Ylang Collection. I'll have reviews up soon.

Several of you have asked for thoughts on the latest from Marc Jacobs Beauty, including the Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer and Re(marc)able Full Cover Foundation Concentrate. I bought the primer and acquired four mini samples of the foundation from my local Sephora. I'm still putting them to the test. I like the primer, still undecided about the foundation. Right now my preference is still for the Genius Gel Super–Charged Oil–Free Foundation (reviewed here) over the new one, but I want to give it a thorough test before I have a review posted.

A few links I've been loving this weekend:
What are you loving right now? Did you end up ordering anything from the recent beauty events from Neiman Marcus, Barney's or Space NK? I'm still waiting on a couple orders - unfortunately they didn't arrive in time to post before the events ended - but I'll start testing things soon as they arrive (I ordered some new items from By Terry and Le Metier de Beaute).

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Loving Right Now

It's the last week of August which means summer is coming to an end soon. I suspect we will still have really good weather in Southern California for the next few months - although I haven't been to the beach nearly enough this year. Right now I'm working my way through Chanel, Tom Ford, Sara Happ, and Eve Snow reviews along with some roundup features. Sometimes I feel as though the days go by so quickly and I find it challenging to accomplish as much I as I would like to. I need some organization and time management inspiration!

Right now I'm obsessed with Smith and Cult in She Said Yeah. It's such a pretty vibrant girly lilac periwinkle colored nail polish - I like it on the toes. For bronzers I'm obsessed with Tom Ford Small Bronzing Powder compacts. I don't know if they are limited-edition or not, but I picked up 2 of the Gold Dust. Armani Maestro Liquid Summer I got last year has still lasted me a long time (with a long way to go, I don't know if I will ever use it up). I like how it blends into the skin naturally. There are three shades now.

For the lips, I'm still obsessed with the Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfectors. I almost always have one or two colors in my purse. For fragrance I'm on a rollerball kick. I ordered this Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Coco mini recently. I'm forever in search of a good vanilla perfume I can wear that isn't too sweet. I'm completely in love with it but my husband is not a fan. He doesn't like vanilla scents on me at all (inserts sad face).

I featured R+Co in my July Favorites and I've been exploring more from the line. I've stocked up on a few mini sample packets from various gift with purchase offers. Most recently I was sent a sample of the Rockaway Salt Spray and it smells so so so amazing. The first few times I used it I sprayed too much too close to my roots. It does dry down even if you use too much but I recommend spritzing at least 6 inches from your hair. It gives a nice textured look and volume without making the hair feel crunchy.

The Supergoop! Sun Defying Sunscreen Oil with Meadowfoam SPF 50 has been on regular rotation for body. It absorbs quickly, doesn't feel greasy, doesn't have that sunscreen smell, keeps sunburns away and doesn't irritate my super sensitive skin. I started testing the cream Everyday Sunscreen SPF 50 with Cellular Response Technology and it also works well without irritation issues. I'll have a sunscreen testing roundup soon.

Last but not least, Truffle has new Clarity Pouch colors! Above shown are Large Seafoam Mint Cranberry and Small Pewter Lime Slate.

Press samples in this feature include items Smith & Cult, R+Co, Clarins and Truffle.

Summer Loves

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week - mine was a very long one and I'm glad it's almost the weekend. A few things I'm loving right now are summery-themed.

Glossier Coconut Balm Dotcom $12 is described as a "vacation in a tube." It does indeed smell like a dreamy vacation with a delicious coconut scent. It's Glossier's do-anything skin salve for the lips, eyes, cheeks or cuticles - basically anywhere you need an added moisture boost. It's very creamy so I've only been brave enough to test it on the lips and so far I love it. It's hydrating, soothing and smells incredible.

Tom Ford Fleur de Portofino $215 was one of my biggest summer splurges. It's a summery white floral citrus. Similar to the Neroli Portofino and Mandarino di Amalafi but with a floral twist to it. It's bright and very rich. Lasts all day on me and makes me feel like I'm at the beach. If you own either of the others I would say you probably don't need the Fleur de Portofino as they are similar. There are noticeable differences, the original Neroli is the strongest and more unisex, Mandarino is the most citrus, Fleur has floral notes which I like the most.

Supergoop! Sun-Defying Sunscreen Oil Broad Spectrum SPF 50 $12-34 has been in regular rotation. The concept of a sunscreen in oil form is new to me. I'm super hesitant about trying new sunscreens in general but this one has been gentle enough for me to wear without any irritation or reaction. It's meant for both the face and body but I haven't been brave enough to test it on the face.

Chanel Tutti Frutti $27 is my favorite coral pink nail color for summer. It's been on my nails a lot lately. I plan on getting a pedicure this weekend for the toes.

Smith & Cult recently launched Lip Lacquers $22 each. I've been testing a few that I ordered sight unseen. They are all relatively sheer in finish but have a lush glossy shine to them with a hint of color. My personal favorite is Her Name Is Bubbles (in large part because I like the name). I'll have a more detailed feature soon on the glosses but for now below are a few swatches. You can find them at Neiman Marcus, Net-A-Porter, Birchbox. If you want to see Her Name is Bubbles on the lips, you can see it in my peachy makeup loves post.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend! What have you been loving this summer?

The Glossier Lip Balm was provided as a courtesy sample for review. All other items purchased by me.

Summer Loves + Weekend Reads

Above: Summer hat by J.Crew, Pouch by Truffle, Blanket by SEVI, iPhone 5 case by Gray Malin (iPhone 6 versions available here), Sunglasses Marc by Marc Jacobs, cheeks Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick and Edward Bess Afterglow Highlighter

We've had a few days of on and off rain storms here in Southern California. We've had record breaking rain in the past few days, I don't remember ever seeing this much rain in July before. I was able to enjoy the sun in the park for a few hours earlier today before it started to pour again. We had clear blue skies for a good part of the morning so I was hopeful that it would be sunny the remainder of the day. Here are a few things I've been loving:
For lips I've been loving the YSL Pop Water Glossy Stains (swatches of my picks here) and the Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfector Sticks (review to be posted soon). Both products give the lips a lush glossy tint which I'm obsessed with for summer.

I've mentioned in a few posts I was looking for a good face sunscreen. My go-to is still the Chanel UV Essential SPF 50 because it's super thin in texture and doesn't feel heavy. I find layering it over my regular moisturizer and under foundation works really well. Many other sunscreens are too heavy.

Two others I've been loving are from First Aid Beauty. The Ultra Repair® Pure Mineral Sunscreen Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 40 is a really good one for sensitive skin. A little goes a long way so I'd recommend using sparingly. It doesn't slide into my eyes when I sweat. The 5 in 1 Face Cream SPF 30 is also really good but it's more moisturizing compared to the other one.

My husband's favorite body sunscreen is the Jack Black Sun Guard SPF 45 because of the high SPF and because it's water resistant. We bought the travel size 3-pack for travel. He also likes the smaller sizes for carrying to the beach or the park. I've been really liking the Supergoop! Oil Spray.

I've been testing a number of foundations. Over the last month I've gotten a few shades darker because of our travels through Europe. I thought it would be a good time to test out some new formulas. I'll have a roundup in the next couple of weeks. I've been testing the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint in Medium and it's a really good sheer no-makeup kind of makeup. It has enough coverage to even out the skin but is on the sheer side so it looks super natural. I wish I had this with me last month while traveling.

Last but not least, a few blog posts I've really enjoyed: RaeView shares her travels in Tokyo with a new vlog, Café Makeup takes on along her travels on a Paris Beauty Crawl, Really Ree has sneak peek swatches of fall releases from Tom Ford Beauty (I need everything).

I'm working my way through swatching my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale picks, Chanel Fall Beauty (I think the four new Stylo Yeuxs are must-haves), the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Eye Palette and new Charlotte Tilbury. What are you loving right now?

Press samples were provided by Truffle, First Aid Beauty, Clarins and Glossier for review. All other items purchased by me.

Weekend Reads, Link Love + Instagram Favorites

Shown above: macarons picked up from one of my favorites Bottega Louie, home-made Nespresso with the Pixie, mugs part of the VertuoLine set, on the nails Marc Jacobs Daisy (reviewed), Fresh Sugar Nude (swatched), March 2015 issue of Vogue

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. I'll be attending The Makeup Show LA today for the first time even though this year marks the 7th year they have been on the West Coat. Stay tuned for a full recap of my experience. In the meantime I have a few reads that I've been loving this past week that I wanted to share.
  • Café Makeup reviews and compares the new Laura Mercier Face Illuminator Powder in Indiscretion to the previously released Spellbound
  • British Beauty Blogger has a preview of Chanel Les Beiges coming out this summer, I need one of everything please!
  • I have major envy of this beautifully edited and well organized makeup desktop on Tamira Jarrel (formerly Lipstick With Some Sunshine)
  • The RaeViewer has a gorgeous tutorial on how to use the MAC Nordstrom Naturals x15 palette
  • It's been a while since I bought something from Clinique but the Nude Pop Cheek Pop Blush looks utterly gorgeous on Temptalia
  • Beauty Professor has 6 shades of Burberry Kisses swatched and reviewed
I love using Instagram as a way to keep up with my favorite reads in beauty, fashion, travel and more. A few that I've been loving:
  • @theglowedit Kate Rooney has some of the most gorgeous beauty images filled with amazing marble backgrounds, Jo Malone, Tom Ford Byredo, and much more
  • @gossmakeupartist is always a fun one to follow, right now he has a sneak peek of Tom Ford Beauty Summer and it's to-die-for gorgeous
  • @savinachaiyj has a feed filled with crisp and clean imagery of all things beautiful
  • @parisinfourmonths is forever a favorite and brightens up my day every day
  • @bigskymunchkins is a must for kitty-lovers, the new kittens are too cute for words
I hope you have a wonderful Sunday! (P.S. Above shown is Fresh Sugar Nude, in case you missed it, the review + swatches here.)

Loving Right Now

The week is flying by so quickly, I can't believe it's almost Friday. I picked up a couple new fragrances that have been on my wish list for ages. I picked up the small bottle of the Les Exclusifs de Chanel in Beige and Byredo Black Saffron (reviews coming in the next few weeks). Also new acquisitions are MAC Cremesheen Pearl Lipsticks in Shanghai Spice and Peach Blossom, both repurchases of lipsticks I used up a while ago. MAC lipsticks usually dry out my lips but I still can't stop using them because some of the neutrals are really good.

The Le Volume de Chanel Mascara is a long-time favorite. I just found out they released a waterproof version so I ordered it. So far I'm really liking it and I hope they release more colors in the waterproof or bring back the Navy Blue one because as far as colored mascaras go, that one was my favorite.

Also on the lips this week are Chanel Glossimer in Seashell and YSL Pop Water Glossy Stains (swatches and review here). For cheeks I still can't get over how much I love the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light (also in a palette form). I'm going to call this one my never-ending bronzer. I use it a lot and still haven't made a dent. It will probably last me forever.

Non-beauty related is my love for these rimless aviators (more colors here). It's virtually impossible for me to find small sunglasses these days when oversized everything is in everywhere. Most of my sunglasses are several years old and it's rare these days to find smaller frames to fit my face shape and size. These are 59mm and the perfect size for me. I bought them in multiple colors (three to be exact).

Last but not least, I've been really liking the Armani Eye Tints (#9 shown above). I am eager to see how the YSL Pop Water Full Metal Shadows compare (still waiting on these to ship, I have a few on backorder).

What are you loving this week? Any new beauty discoveries or staples you're loving right now?

Weekend Loves + Reads

It's sunny and warm this weekend in Southern California. I'm currently smitten with the new MAC Amber Times Nine palette. The pans are smaller than the regular-sized eyeshadows making the compact the same size as the quads with pro-palettes. They are super cute. The MAC Burgandy Times Nine is also a stunning option. (Review soon.) Other loves include Frederic Malle Travel Sprays in Carnal Flower, Marc Jacobs Sheer Lip Gel in Eat Cake and Tom Ford Lip Gloss in Rose Crush. The NARS Dual Intensity Blushes are absolutely stunning (Craving shown above). I'll be testing these more this week.

Current reads I'm loving this weekend:

  • Café Makeup swatched and reviewed all of the new NARS Soft Velvet Loose Powders, if you're ordering online, her post is a really good resource for the color swatches
  • The RaeViewer gives a gorgeous sneak peek + tutorial of the beauty look for Burberry A/W 2015
  • Beauty Professor features a list of items to get a warm glow with color in her Glow Getters post
  • Mostly Sunny has awesome swatches of a few new Chanel Rouge Coco shades
  • Paris in Four Months' photographs become more and more beautiful by the week, I have Paris on my list to visit by the end of next year
  • J.Crew's Blog has some beauty notes and details on how to get the look behind their Fall/Winter 2015 Presentation (looks are stunning and glowy)

Loving Right Now + Weekend Reads

Above: Smythson Notebook, Truffle Clutch, Celine Bracelet, Gucci sunnies (old style)

I'm officially one week into my 28-day long take-down challenge / workout bootcamp and I'm going through major cookie, cupcake and candy withdrawals but overall feeling good by eating healthier. It's really difficult to resist the unhealthy foods - all I can think about is Sprinkles Cupcakes. I've been successful in sticking to the meal plans so far but if you have any diet tips I'd love to hear them. This weekend I went through a substantial stack of magazines but only found a few really inspiring. Glamour always has interesting articles and topics I feel like I can relate to. Do you still read print magazines? Which ones are your favorites?

Right now five beauty things I'm loving include:
Weekend reads I'm loving right now along with some beauty news:
  • Jo Malone Rock the Ages Collection coming this spring - The Sunday Girl
  • Chanel will be launching reformulated versions of their Rouge Coco Lipsticks - Beautezine
  • Swatches + review of the NARS Spring 2015 Collection - Makeup and Beauty Blog
  • Details and the 411 on Bite Beauty's #001 Creme Deluxe Lipstick - Temptalia
  • A first look at Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil - Café Makeup
  • Steps to create a pretty DIY Floral Bouquet - Erika Brechtel
  • Beautiful dreamy pictures of beaches, sunsets and more - Paris in Four Months
What are you loving right now? P.S, I'm behind on responding to a lot of e-mails from readers but here's a quick thank you for some of your kind notes over the last week. I was really touched by some of the e-mails I received, I hope to get caught up with responses very soon, hoping today!

Loving Right Now

I can't believe that this is the last week of 2014. I will have a year-end roundup/review shortly with some thoughts and reflections soon. For now I wanted to share a few things I'm loving right now. As always I would love to hear what you've been loving too!

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes are a current favorite. It has the perfect mix of glow and pigment in one compact. I've been reaching for Luminous Flush lately which brightens the complexion and adds a nice healthy glow with the soft shimmer. Review + swatches here and here.

I'm a sucker for cute notebooks and Vianel has small Moleskin Pocket Notebooks that you can have personalized (for now the personalization is free of charge). I like that they give you a choice of engraving on the front or back of the notebook.

Tom Ford Lips & Boys in Peter is a pretty neutral nude shimmer I've been really pleased with. Based on reader comments, many of you seemed to like this one most in my recent post here. I like it so much that I bought a backup.

Marc Jacobs O'Mega Lash Volumizing Mascara is seriously good. When it comes to mascara it takes a lot to impress me, most mascaras turn grey on my lashes once they dry or smudge or flake. The Marc Jacobs O'Mega volumizes and separates my lashes without any clumping or flaking. It holds the curl without looking crunchy. Once it dries the color remains a true black. I will definitely be repurchasing it.

So many have raved about the Aesop Parley Seed Cleansing Masque. I have a few loves from Aesop for body products but many of the facial skincare products have a really strong earthy and herbal fragrance which I cannot tolerate. I decided to give this a try and am thoroughly impressed. This mask is amazing. It is gentle on the skin but really works to remove impurities from the pores. What I like about the Aesop mask is that it seems to be perfect for sensitive skin. It has a soothing feel once applied. There's no tingly or burning feeling. If you have super sensitive skin and want a good clarifying/cleansing mask I highly recommend looking into this one. It has a natural earthy scent but it's not too strong and actually quite soothing.

With the dry weather I've been exploring more in hand creams. I'll have a roundup of all the ones I've been testing later this week. One new discovery of mine is the Eve Lom Hand Cream. For those who cannot tolerate highly fragranced hand lotions this is a good one. It has no added fragrance but still has a nice super lightweight naturally clean scent. It has lightweight airy texture that moisturizes well and absorbs quickly into the skin. A more detailed review to come soon.

For the home, I've been obsessed with Diptyque Figuier. In my opinion this is the best fig candle that I've tried (it beats Henri Bendel and Jo Malone, although those are very good too). It's a good holiday candle that gives a warm and cozy feel to the home.

Last but not least, I've been loving the Faux Fur Throw from Williams-Sonoma Home (used in the background of the photo above). It's super soft and thick and warm.

Loving Right Now

A few things I'm loving this weekend:

Mini lipsticks are in right now. Charlotte Tilbury has the cutest Lipstick Charm Trio with Bitch Perfect, Penelope Pink and So Marilyn. They are super tiny at 1 g each, but each lipstick comes with a purple ribbon attached. I bought this trio as a gift but now I want one for myself. (Available at Bergdorf Goodman, on backorder at Nordstrom).

Tom Ford Lips & Boys launched Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. They will be making a re-appearance at the end of the month at select Tom Ford Boutiques and Counters. I made several different orders since no one website had all the colors I wanted. My items are still trickling in. I'll try to post swatches and reviews as soon as I can. In the meantime, I recommend the Tom Ford Beauty Thread at for reference and swatches.

Gold lipglosses are still an obsession for me. My favorite right now is Charlotte Tilbury Lip Lustre in Ibiza Nights has been a go-to for me. It's the prettiest sparkling gold. Swatches and color focus series here.

If you missed out on the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals for Truffle, the good news is they are having a promotion of 20% off orders $100 or more with code HOLIDAY20. I ordered three from the last promotion (two as gifts, one for me) and the new Nude Privacy Clutch is to die for gorgeous. I think it's the best one they've released to date. Color comparisons below for reference on the pale colors. More inspiration on how I've used these clever pouches here, here, and here.

Dior Lili Nail Polish is still my perfect nude for right now. Full review + swatches here, but I can't get enough of this color.

Loving Right Now

iPhone case by Gray Malin, bracelet by Celine

November is flying by faster than I expected it to. The holiday season is just starting and I'm not prepared at all. This weekend I'll try to start making to-do and shopping lists to try and get an early start. I think most of my holiday shopping will be done online this year to avoid crowds and lines. Our new place is slowly coming together as we get all of our furniture delivered piece by piece. Our coffee table and some bookshelves finally arrived and I'm excited to start decorating and adding personal touches.

Right now, I'm loving a mix of new and old beauty items.

I'm all about flat zip pouches, I've been loving this Black Croc-Print Small Clutch (1) by Whistles, (similar here, white here) which is the perfect size for a makeup bag or a clutch. This newly released all-black Privacy Clutch by Truffle is also calling my name.

For cheeks, I've been using soft bronzers non-stop. The Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder (2) has been raved about for quite some time. Several of my blogger friends told me to get it. I listened, bought it, and I love it. I've been using Bronze 02.

Pinks have been my go-to lately for lipgloss. I've been loving the Dior Pink Excess (3) for holiday and Laura Mercier Pink Pop Lip Glacé (also in this mini 5 piece set) (4).

On the eyes, I've been using the Laura Mercier Mini Caviar Set (5) almost daily. Amethyst is a really pretty soft purple mauve that goes with virtually every lip/cheek look I've tried. If you gift yourself one beauty item this season, I would highly recommend this set (unless you already own all the colors).

Charlotte Tilbury's Powder and Sculpt Brush (6) is a tool I keep reaching for. It's perfectly shaped for contouring and highlighting. The bristles pick up just the right amount of product. (Review here.)

NARS Audacious Lipsticks (7) are still a huge hit with me (swatches of my picks here). Every color I've tried is amazing. I've been loving Anita a neutral pink.

Lumira released a new collection called Paradisium. The Eau de Parfum (8) is to die for. It has Bergamot, Grapefruit and Lemon, Fig Nectar and Guava, Vetiver, Sea Moss and Cedarwood. It's the most unique scent I've smelled. It's refreshing and uplifting and soothing. The closest thing I can think of is Jo Malone's Wood Sage and Sea Salt which I liked but wore during super humid weather where it turned on my skin (in a bad way) and did not work well with my body chemistry. It was too earthy and after having it turn once, I can't wear it anymore (thank goodness I got a sample to test before splurging). The Lumira Paradisium is a better alternative, it has enough sweetness in it to keep it from turning on the skin. the lasting power is phenomenal. A dedicated post on the line to come soon.

My Tatcha love continues. I've been loving the Camellia Nourishing Lip Balm (9) and Indigo Hand Cream Mini (10). Be sure to check out the holiday sets, these two products are included in a number of beautiful gift options this year.

Burberry's Effortless Liquid Liner (11) is a beautiful classic liner. I've been experimenting more with this liquid liner and although it still takes me some time to get a good even line, practice is improving my liner skills.

I know it's fall/winter season now where darker scents are in season, but I'm still loving the florals like Diptyque Geranium Odorata (12). It's a brightening scent that I find refreshing. (Original review here.)

I hope your week is going well so far! What have you been loving this week?

The Lumira EDP, Diptyque Geranium Odorata and Burberry Liner were provided for review consideration. Rest purchased by me.

Loving Right Now (plus Tom Ford Giveaway Winner Announced)

On my desktop right now I have the Fall/Winter special edition of Lucky, Garance Doré + Rifle Paper notepad, Christian Louboutin book, Diptyque mini photophore with Freesia and the new Diptyque Spice candle for holiday (review soon). Even though Chanel released several almost-identical looking reds, I'm currently obsessed with Chanel Expression which has a slight pink base making it a softer red. For lips, I've been loving the Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G lipsticks, in particular Stoned Rose and B*tch Perfect.

This weekend I'm loving these links:

Many thanks to everyone who entered my Tom Ford Nude Dip Giveaway. I am completely floored at how many entries I received. I really enjoyed learning about everyone's favorite neutral eyeshadow palette picks - I received over 300 comments and it appears that the most popular pick is hands down anything from the Urban Decay Naked series. The winner selected via the Rafflecopter widget is Madison T, congrats!! (E-mail madisonti***, check your inbox!)

Hope you are enjoying the weekend!

Thursday Link Love

Happy Thursday everyone! I hope you have been having a great week. I can't believe it's almost the end of October, time is literally flying in front of my eyes. Thank you everyone for your kind words and sending sweet notes via e-mail and comments over the past few weeks. My husband and I recently moved and the whole process is kicking me in the ***. We are starting from scratch for most of our furniture with the new place and we had no idea everything would take so long to make and ship - even items that don't seem like they are custom pieces of furniture. Luckily we found some pieces that work for now and are slowly getting everything put together. In a way, it's a bit like a blank canvas which makes it fun.

A few links I'm loving this week:
  • Brunch and Art from Egg Canvas is perfection (and her photos are amazing too)
  • Loving Lipstick With Some Sunshine's Autumn Makeup Bag picks
  • This Bite Beauty Best Bite Remix set on Temptalia is adorable
  • Lucky girl Beauty Professor met Lipstick Queen founder Poppy King (check out her interview)
  • The Non-Blonde's secret beauty weapon is Vincent Longo Flamenco (and I need it)
  • Amelia Liana shares her special event contouring and highlighting tips
  • Emoji talk on Garance Doré (happy I'm not the only one who likes to talk in emoji)
  • Tatcha has launched their Personal Skincare Consultation online that provides personalized recommendations if you're not sure where to start
  • Many thanks to Elle Quebec for featuring me in their October Issue! I'm beyond thrilled :)
 Have a great Thursday!

Loving Right Now + Weekend Reads

I hope everyone had a great week. I spent the last couple days in Los Angeles to visit with family, preview the new Hourglass store in Venice Beach and meet up with Edward Bess at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills. I'm a bit behind on reviews but am working all weekend editing and photographing for posts to be published this week. Right now I'm in love with (left to right):

  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette is one of my holy grail powder highlighter palettes with three shades of their Ambient Lighting Powders in Dim Light, Incandescent Light (exclusive to palette) and Radiant Light, it is something I find perfect for travel and it works for both eyes and cheeks
  • Charlotte Tilbury Blondie Lip Lustre is the perfect soft pale pink that doesn't wash out the complexion, lasts for hours and is also lovely as a layering color
  • NARS Anita Audacious Lipstick has been in frequent rotation as a good neutral rose pink
  • NARS Himalia and Subra Dual Intensity Eyeshadows are my go-to shades when I want something easy to wear that goes with just about any color of lip/cheek or clothing (if you just get one, Himalia is a must-check-out)
  • Tatcha Travel-Sized Beauty is my latest obsession, their minis of Beauty Oil and Classic Rice Enzyme Powder Cleansers are what I bring with me on weekend getaways (the packaging of the travel sizes are just as good in design and quality as the full size, huge plus for me)
  • Guerlain Waterproof Mascara has been a must-have all summer for volumizing and holding the curl, I just bought my second tube of it
  • Kat Von D Ink Liner is my everything for liquid liners right now
  • L'Artisan Mure et Musc is my favorite scent of the moment, I just purchased my second bottle after my last one accidentally broke (I knocked it off my desk and it shattered)
  • Edward Bess All Over Seduction is my holy grail cream highlighter, some asked me for a recommendation on a liquid/cream version that doesn't interfere with foundation if you put it on top, this one is THE one to try (Sunlight shown above, but I also adore Afterglow the darker peachy bronze version)
  • Formula X Remarkable Translucent Nail Polish is the perfect pale sheer (swatches soon)
Some weekend reads and videos I think are worth a look:

Weekend Reads / Link Love

Above: Prada Marfa photo by Gray Malin, tray by West Elm, candles by Diptyque in Vanille and Le Redouté, leather catchall by Pottery Barn, book Yves Saint Laurent

I hope everyone has been having a nice weekend. We're experiencing a heat wave in Southern California so I'm trying to stay indoors to keep cool. This upcoming week I'll have some posts on a few foundations I've been testing along with some skincare loves. (After several weeks of another skin flare up episode, my skin has finally started to clear up again and return back to its normal state.) I spent Saturday morning with Beauty Professor at the Neiman Marcus Project Beauty event and will be sharing what I purchased at the event soon. I'm also still working my way through my Charlotte Tilbury reviews so stay tuned. I wasn't happy with my initial photographs on the eyes/cheeks so I've had to reshoot the product photos which is why it's been taking forever to publish.

I wanted to share a new addition to our home (non-beauty related). I just received my first Gray Malin print which I ordered from the Labor Day sale event (they had free shipping and free framing). I picked one of his Prada Marfa prints and couldn't be happier. I have so many of his prints on my wish list. (You can also find some of his work on sale at One King's Lane.) Be sure to visit his Lifestyle Blog for inspiration.

Some weekend reads and videos I'm loving right now:
  • I'm living vicariously through others to see what on backstage during NYFW, I'm dying over this neutral NARS palette featured on the @narsissist instagram
  • @marcbeauty posted this sneak peek of a nail polished used on the models at their SS15 show, I'm wish I knew what the color was called, anyone have any ideas?

Monthly Favorites | Skincare, Haircare, Body and Fragrance

Several have requested a monthly favorites round up - welcome to The Beauty Look Book's first monthly favorites feature! I wanted to feature some midsummer beauty favorites for the skin, body and hair. Many of these items are things I've been using all summer long.
  • Caudalie Make-up Removing Cleansing Water is a gentle lightweight cleansing water that refreshes the skin. It won't remove waterproof eye makeup or mascara all the way, but I like this for the face. I have this in the full size as well but like to keep the small travel sizes.
  • Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse has been a favorite this summer for dry body oils. (Three I tested here.) I alternate between this and the Caudalie Divine Oil, but lately I've been reaching more for the Nuxe, the fresh floral beach-like scent is perfect for summer. It layers nicely with most perfumes as it's very gentle and not overpowering. I love that the skin absorbs it quickly.
  • Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray is an alternative to dry shampoo. I've tried several and don't like the powdery crunchy look they give to the hair. The Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray is the only one I've tried that doesn't leave any residue. It's more of a texturizing spray that I like to use on days where my hair looks a bit flat. I love all things Oribe that I've tried it's a brand I keep exploring and looking into. The signature Oribe scent is incredible.
  • St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse is a new discovery this year and it is hands down my favorite self tan product. I purchased the mini size to compare it to the Gradual an Everyday Body Lotion from Sephora. I tested each one simultaneously with the mousse on one leg and the lotion on the other. The mousse gives a better tan without being orange. The lotion has a more gradual darkening effect. The tint to the mousse also helps you see where you applied product and helps as a guide for even application. It didn't stain or transfer to white sheets and after letting it set for 10 minutes I found it didn't transfer to a white denim skirt. I applied it for two consecutive days and my tan will last about 5 days. I have super sensitive skin and I've gotten allergic reactions to spray tans and other self tan products (like Clarins).
  • First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser was sent for review and it is an amazing cleanser. It has red clay which is suppose to draw out toxins, remove oil and unclog pores. It's designed for combination or oily skin. My skin is slightly combination, dry on the cheeks area and slightly oily in the T zone. I found this to be amazing at unclogging pores. It comes with a slightly gel-like texture that is a reddish pink with a pearly shimmer. It works well with the hands, a washcloth and my Clarisonic Aria. It's gentle enough for my sensitive skin but very effective. I'm on my second tube.
  • Tom Ford Mandarino di Amalfi is one of Tom Ford's latest, it's one of two new scents that are an extension of the Neroli Portofino line. I can't wear a lot of orange citrus scents but Tom Ford is the only one I can pull off. It's the perfect summertime scent with citrus, florals and musk.
  • Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream is something I bought from the Flower Power Kit (has the Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream in 1 oz, Rose Face Mask in 1 oz, Sugar Tulip and Rose Floral Toner 0.5 oz). I love this lightweight face cream for hydration. It's too heavy for me right now for daily use but I like to use it 2x per week during the day and alternate this as a night cream. It has a refreshing cucumber scent and feels amazing on the skin. It makes the skin look refreshed and improves the overall skin tone by smoothing over time and is great for calming the skin.
  • MAC Cleanse Off Oil has been my favorite go-to for removing makeup at the end of the day. I did a roundup of several oils I tested and the MAC is one I keep reaching for because it has the best emulsifying quality and gets everything off without leaving a residue or drying out the skin.
  • Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask is something I tried with the mini pods first. I liked it so much I bought the full size. It's a mask that really works and clears pores. It has a slight tingly effect the first few minutes but it goes away. The charcoal and white clay both work to draw out pore-cloggers. I've used it up to 3x per week when my skin was messed up. I don't recommend using it if you have broken skin or areas with irritation, but it is a gentle enough mask that won't sting your skin.
  • Malin+Goetz Lip Moisturizer is my summer favorite for a relative inexpensive lip balm with a nice lightweight gel formula. It's super effective without being too rich or heavy for summer.
  • L'Occitane Extra Gentle Lotion for Hands and Body has been a staple for me for years. It's the only body lotion I've repurchased. It has a super lightweight feel that absorbs into the skin. It's part of the Shea Butter line and is moisturizing and soothing.
  • Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil Primer was a Sephora freebie. It's a pre-styler product that I apply to the hair before blow drying and it helps smooth the hair, decreases frizz and protects it from heat styling. It smells absolutely amazing like coconut and vanilla. It adds softness and shine without weighing down the hair.
  • L'Occitane Frisson de Verveine Hand Cream Gel is a great alternative to regular hand creams for the summer. It's a unique hand moisturizer that absorbs into the skin really quickly. It has an interesting dry down that's smooth and soothing with a slight velvety feel. It comes in the new Frisson Verbena scent which is a lightweight summery lime. One tube was sent for review and I've already purchased a second one.
  • Tatcha Aburatorigami Beauty Papers are the perfect blotting papers for me. They are compact and easy to carry in the purse. I love how they are super absorbent without having any powdery residue. I use about one sheet with every use and it's so much better than touching up with powder mid-day or late afternoon. Sometimes with the summer heat and humidity I've found adding powder to oily skin can get cakey (at least on me).
  • Chanel UV Essential Anti-Pollution Broad Spectrum SPF 50 is the only face sunscreen I like to use. It's lightweight and absorbs into the skin quickly. I like to layer serum with moisturizer under my foundation but I don't like anything that feels heavy. This sunscreen is light enough to wear with both a serum and moisturizer and foundation. It's suitable for my sensitive skin. It also comes with an SPF 20 and SPF 30 versions as well.

What have been your summer favorites this past month?

Today's Summer Details

A few summer details today: 1) Banana Republic Striped Timeless Tee (similar here and here) has been a weekly go-to, it's versatile enough to wear with a number of different outfits. It goes with casual jeans, shorts and capris, you can also dress it up with a pencil skirt and pumps, or layer a blazer.

2) Nude pink sunglasses are one of my weaknesses, these are some old ones by Chanel that come with small frames (rare find). Continuing the nude-pink theme,  3) Tom Ford Tawny Pink Lipgloss and 4) Spanish Pink Lipstick are staples for the perfect nude pink pout. I love that there's a hint of nude and peach in these but they don't wash out my complexion. The lightness contrasts with a tan but it's not too sharp. (Tawny Pink looks like it's sold out online, Rose Crush is very similar.)

For the perfect glow 5) Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders are my favorite powder highlighters, I keep reaching for them and they seem to last forever (even with regular use I have barely made a dent). Luminous Light is shown above. Radiant Light is another favorite. Or if you want more options check out the Ambient Lighting Palette. They give the perfect candlelit glow.

6) Chanel Holiday Le Vernis is an oldie but goodie. I'm surprised it's still available since it was released quite a while ago. I rarely match tips and toes with the same colors but for this one I'll make an exception. See it compared to Chanel Mirabella.

I'm a minimalist when it comes to jewelry. I love the looks my friends can create with creative layering but I always feel like I can't pull it off. For me, some simple layering includes stacking simple detailed pieces. I've been loving my 7) Celine Rose Gold knot cuff stacked with 8) Gorjana Mila Hexagon Cuff (c/o) and any 9) Hermes Enamel Bracelet for some color. Gorjana has great visuals for bracelet layering ideas that are easy to pull off. I've been very inspired from browsing their site - be sure to check out the Gorjana x Happily Grey collaboration with curated picks.

I'm obsessed with open toe sandals, these 10) Banana Republic tan sandals fit perfectly and didn't break the bank. It sold out online months ago but I've spotted them instore.

Last but not least, I've fallen head over heels with 11) Tom Ford Mandarino di Almafi which is an extension of the Neroli Portofino line. I'm not typically a fan of citrus orange scents on me (I adore them on others). The ones by Tom Ford are the only citrus scents I feel like I can wear. It's a refreshing summery fruity scent. My local Neiman Marcus sold out of it but they were able to order it for me. More detailed review to come soon.
