Inside My Bag

TGIF! Happy weekend my lovely readers. I hope everyone had a good week. We are having a hot weekend here in Southern California with 80+ degree weather and I feel like I'm in desperate need of a tan. Here's a quick peek at what's inside my bag this Friday.

Inside My Bag

This week I've been playing with the Charlotte Tilbury Beach Sticks, new Burberry Eye Shadow formulation, the Dior Eye Reviver Palette, Marc Jacobs Contouring Duos, Chanel Rouge Cocos and much more. Thank you for your patience while you wait for reviews - I know some of you have e-mailed me and been asking when the reviews will be posted. I'm working as fast as I can. It's only Wednesday and I'm already exhausted. I've been trying to go easy on caffeine so I've been coffee-free for a few days which has impacted my energy levels. Here's a quick peek at what's in my bag this week. Why I carry this much stuff is beyond me, although I have been traveling on a few mini road trips this week.

Malin + Goetz Mojito Lip Balm (reviewed)
Chanel Glossimer in Fleur D'Eau (review)
Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick in Ibiza (review tomorrow)
L'Artisan La Chasse aux Papillon
Tom Ford Lips & Boys in Peter and Ian (review)

Marc by Marc Jacobs Aviator Sunglasses
Louis Vuitton Wallet, Goyard Tote, Sony NEX-6
Compartes Chocolate Bar

What do you have in your bag this week? I hope your week has been going well! P.S. Kelly Clarkson's new album Piece by Piece is awesome.

Inside My Bag

Here's a peek at what's inside my bag this week (another shot here @beautylookbook). Truffle  Clutches are keeping my bags streamlined and organized. I like to use the Clarity Clutches for makeup because I can see what's inside (nude is shown). The Privacy Clutches for me are used to keep card cases, wallets, notecards and keys in (blush shown). I ordered a bunch of these for Christmas and gave them out as gifts to friends. They put them to use immediately and it brought a smile to my face seeing that they were well received - everyone has been sending me pictures of their pouches in action.

As usual, I have too many lip products in my purse. Left to right is NARS Dolce Vita Lip Gloss (review), Charlotte Tilbury Lip Lustre in Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (swatched), Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Étourdie (swatches), and Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask in Champagne (review).

I've been carrying the Tatcha's Original Aburatorigami Beauty Papers to blot. They are packaged in a slim compact sturdy paper case making them easy to carry with me, although the new Travel Sized Papers-To-Go Tube is now on my wish list. Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Powder in 20 stays with me these days for refreshing makeup although I often forget to bring a powder brush with me so having it in my bag is kinda pointless.

Two last beauty items I've been carrying with me include Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black mini and L'Occitane's Shea Butter Hand Cream (from the limited-edition holiday L'OcciBox).

What's in your bag this week?

The Truffle Blush Clutch and L'Occitane Hand Cream were press samples. All other items purchased by me.

Inside My Bag

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! I have a few things to share that I've been loving lately - all of which are compact in size making it easy to slip into a flat leather clutch.

First, Elizabeth and James just released a new Solid Perfume Compact for Nirvana Black and White. It's the prettiest solid perfume compact I've seen. It comes in heavy duty a mirrored compact with the same detail as the full size bottles. It's currently a VIB/VIB Rouge Exclusive at through 12/27 and will be officially launch in the new year. The solid Nirvana Black smells just like the Eau De Parfum and Rollerball (full review on those here) with decent lasting power.

Next, I've been really enjoying the Tom Ford Lips & Boys clutch-sized lipsticks. I have posted a few sneak peeks here and on my Instagram, I'm working as fast as I can to get the full review and swatches up this week. Below is William, a sheer glossy nude peach shimmer.

NARS is a regular go-to these days with their Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Dione (review) and Audacious Lipstick in Barbara (review). I've been shopping my stash with both formulas.

For the dry winter weather, I've been using hand cream and lip balms religiously. Two I really like at the moment is L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand cream mini that I got as a gift with purchase at the boutique (always a classic) and the Malin + Goetz Lip Moisturizer.

Full clutch contents this weekend:

1 / NARS Audacious Lipstick in Barbara
4 / Chocolate Mints Tin
5 / Louis Vuitton Key ring
6 / L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream
9 / Charlotte Tilbury Lip Lustre in Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds (review soon)
10 / Tom Ford Lips & Boys in William
12 / iPhone

Hope you have a lovely Sunday afternoon!

The Elizabeth & James solid compact was provided for review consideration. The mini L'Occitane hand cream was a gift with purchase in store. All other items purchased by me.

Inside My Bag

Inside my Prada Saffiano tote (similar color here, similar style here):

Charlotte Tilbury Lip Lustres in Seduction and Sweet Stiletto (reviewed here)
Frederic Malle Travel Spray in Carnal Flower
Canon G16 Camera
Key ring and small wallet by Louis Vuitton

I'm a huge fan of the pouches and clutches by Truffle. I have multiples now in different colors and styles and love how they really help keep things streamlined and organized in my purses. They just released a few additions in Nude, Black and Rose Gold. They are a bit of a splurge, but I feel they are well worth the price because they are well-made and very sturdy. Right now Truffle is offering 25% off your entire purchase with code HOLIDAY25 at checkout (it ends on Monday December 1st).

The Privacy Clutches are also good for on-the-go. If you don't want to lug around your purse and just want to carry the essentials, it will fit quite a bit but still keep everything streamlined (see what I fit in the Blush version back in August).

Sometimes I'll carry multiples in my purses that don't have compartments. They are pretty good at staying flat and keeping their shape so it keeps everything streamlined.

P.S. If you're like me and have been eyeing Charlotte Tilbury items you might want to look into the holiday offer at Beautylish. They are offering a $20 gift card for every $100 you spend (also ends on Monday).

What's in your bag right now? How do you keep your bag organized or streamlined. I usually tend to throw things in each day of the week so by the weekend it gets heavy and messy. Compartments help keep me organized but not all of my bags have separators.

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving and that you are enjoying the weekend! I spent the last 3 days sick in bed with a bad cold, but my fever broke and I am starting to feel more like myself this afternoon.

The Black Privacy Clutch was gifted by Truffle without charge, all other items purchased by me.

Inside My Bag: MAC Clear Bag Set

I've received lots of requests about clear makeup bags ever since I featured a clear Bobbi Brown cosmetic bag in a few of my inside my bag posts. Unfortunately it was a gift with purchase a few years ago and was never released for purchase which is too bad because it was well made and compact enough to fit into most of my smaller purses. I've been on the hunt for something similar but haven't found anything quite like it. The Truffle Clarity Clutches are a favorite for their sleek look, high quality material and functional design but some have asked for other recommendations. I spotted these new MAC Clear Bag Sets ($25) and immediately went to my MAC counter to investigate. Size dimensions weren't disclosed online so I wasn't sure how small or large these were.

The MAC Clear Bag Set ($25) is a set of two sealable rectangular pouches. One side of each pouch is clear with a black back. They are sleek and compact and the set comes with two different sizes. The zipper glides nicely in a plastic format. Below shows what I was able to fit into each:

The Large Pouch measures approximately 9.4 inches by 5.75 inches. It fits quite a bit inside. I like my flat makeup bags to remain relatively flat so I didn't pack it full. I was able to get the following inside the pouch:

The Small Pouch measures approximately 9.4 inches by 3.1 inches, this one is ideal for smaller sized items like small brushes, pencils, skinny objects or minis. What I was able to fit into the smaller clear front pouch:

Revlon Tweezers

They are both fairly compact in size. The flat design makes them fit easily into your purse and keep everything compact. The material is just ok. It's nicely made but not the best quality. It's not as good as the material used on my Bobbi Brown case or Truffle Pouch. The design of the MAC Clear Bag Set is basic and simple with a no-fuss look, but it lacks a hard backing and the trim is very minimal around the edges which makes it easy to bend. I had one corner folded (accidentally) after putting it inside my purse. It didn't crease completely, but it did get mashed up a bit. The bag isn't ruined and it will probably go back to its original shape if I lay it flat for a short while. I find these functional but in the past I have had issues with other brands of pouches and bags that have the plastic zipper seal - I've found they aren't always the sturdiest and often become misaligned and the pouches stop sealing all together. Only time will tell with these, but so far they do seem to be pretty well made.

I've used these for a couple of weeks and they have held up pretty well although they aren't the sturdiest makeup bags I've tried so I don't know how long they will hold up. I like that the design is simple and sleek. They keep everything compact and having one clear side is nice so you don't have to go digging through your makeup bag to find things. The simplicity in the design has a slight downside in the sense the trim is almost non-exisiting so it is very easy to bend. With thinner plastic material I do sometimes worry about it stretching if things don't stay flat inside making the shape distorted.

Overall I think they are nice. I wouldn't call them must-haves simply because I would have preferred something with a sturdier design. Still, they are functional and I find the price is reasonable for a set of two pouches. These would certainly be a good storage option for brushes if you are looking for something to store them on-the-go.

I purchased the MAC Clear Bag Set for $25 from Nordstrom. It's also available at Macy's and Do you have a favorite clear makeup bag?

Inside My Makeup Bag

Here is a peek at what I've had inside my makeup bag this week. The clear makeup bag is from Bobbi Brown which I found as a gift with purchase several years ago during a Neiman Marcus beauty event (for those looking for a clear makeup bag, a few other alternatives from MAC, Make Up For Ever, Sephora, Lulu).
  1. Chanel Les Beiges No. 20 for mid-day touch ups
  2. MAC Sharon Osbourne Refresh Mineralize Skinfinish Duo (still available at Macy's)
  3. Chanel Hydra Beauty Lip Balm (new for me, review soon)
  4. Jo Malone Grapefruit Cologne (mini from a gift with purchase)
  5. By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Misty Rock which I works alone on the lids, it's a medium pink shade with plum shimmer, I swipe directly from tube onto lids and then blend with the fingers
  6. Tom Ford Paradiso Lip Color Sheer (sold out most places, but still on
  7. Burberry Lip Glow Balm in Pink Peony
  8. MAC Brush #168SH (mini size discontinued)
  9. Marc Jacobs Overprotected Lust for Lacquer (love the tingle)
  10. YSL Kiss and Blush #3 Rose Libre still testing these out and figuring out to use these, I like them on the cheeks, for the lips, I'm still undecided
  11. Malin + Goetz Mojito Lip Balm is a staple, love the clear finish, decent price and the unique scent of this one (see Malin + Goetz Los Angeles store feature here)
  12. Guerlain Maxi Lash Waterproof Mascara I rarely touch up with mascara in the middle of the day, but I sometimes carry one with me because in the mornings I typically am running out the door and have missed a few makeup steps before I leave the house, mascara and lips are usually the last two items I apply
  13. Diptyque Geranium Odorata is such a pretty soft floral, the roller ball tip makes it easy to apply quickly, I keep it in the velvet pouch it comes with (not shown above)
  14. NARS Andromeda Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow accidentally made it into the makeup bag this week, but I'm not complaining
To see the full contents of what has been in my bag most of this week, check out the post on Styled Notes. Hope you have a great Thursday!

TGIF everyone! I hope you had a good week and have some down time to relax this weekend. I'm looking forward to meeting up with a few friends, a trip to Barneys and plan on taking lots of photos for upcoming reviews.

  14. Edward Bess Deep Shine Lipgloss in Stolen Kiss (on sale right now until stock runs out at

I need to start using smaller makeup bags so I don't end up carrying around so much stuff. Things tend to pile up each day. What's been in your makeup bag this past week?

Travel Makeup | January-February Edition

I've been traveling this past week in San Francisco. This particular post is inspired by an interesting conversation I had with someone this week on what beauty items to bring when traveling. We both talked about how we were really sad we couldn't bring any hair aerosol products with us. I personally was dying that I had to leave my Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray at home this past week. Not to mention pretty much all of my hair care and most of by body care products. (I brought several mini sample packets of Oribe and Diptyque to test.) This is what I brought with me during my 4.5 day trip (excluding a Dolce & Gabbana Powder foundation and my Moroccanoil mini, not photographed):

The items I brought with me included:
  1. Tom Ford Brush Holder (from several holidays ago)
  2. Chanel Eyelash Curler
  3. MAC Tapered Face Brush #138 for blush and contouring
  4. Chanel Powder Brush #1 my favorite all over fluffy brush
  5. MAC Eyeshadow Brush #239 has super soft white hair and has the best shape for multiple uses
  6. Tom Ford Brushes #12 Eyeshadow Blend and #13 Eyeshadow Contour (review here)
  7. Giorgio Armani Lacquer Pink #502
  8. MAC Huggable Lipstick in Out for Passion (review here)
  9. Tom Ford Flush Blush (looks pink in the picture because of bathroom lighting + flash, it's really a straight peach)
  10. MAC Magnetic Nude Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Fairly Precious (review here, it's official this one needs a backup to the backup)
  11. Edward Bess Daydream Bronzer (original version I stocked up on, new one is just as good but I love the round packaging)
  12. Bobbi Brown Pink Apricot Shimmer Lipstick (review here)
  13. Armani Eyes to Kill Stretch (my it-mascara of the moment that thickens, defines and holds the curls, without it, I look lash-less)
  14. Edward Bess Illuminating Eye Base in Suede (review here)
  15. MAC Viva Glam V Lipglass a classic neutral no-fuss pink
  16. Various mini sample items from Chanel and Tom Ford Oud Wood (review here)
  17. NARS Palette #9944 (old palette with Bellisima, All About Eve, Kalahari and Bali)
  18. Ole Henricksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser from The Works Set I'm in love with this stuff
  19. Wen Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner sample, new to this brand as well, thanks to my friend LJ for pointing this out, I'm a new believer
  20. NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in Groenland
  21. Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation Beige Illuminator (review to be posted soon)
I carried everything in either a quart sized bag or a flat black leather pouch from Rebecca Minkoff. For me this was light packing. I usually tend to bring a lot more items. Stay tuned for posting to resume this week.

Update - A few of my readers asked for an update on what I used/didn't use and what I wish I brought. I ended up using everything I brought with me on this trip. Aside from liquids I couldn't bring, if I had to do it over, I would have brought a couple more dark shadows or a dark smudgy cream shadow stick.

What beauty, skincare and body products do you usually carry for a week trip?

Inside My Makeup Bag

Here's what's in my makeup bag right now. It's one of those weeks where I switched handbags mid-week and I forgot to transfer a few floating items such as my face powder, a couple lipglosses and two mini brushes between bags (I don't always put them back in the makeup bag after use). Here's what I have inside my bag right now, listed from top to bottom.

YSL Volupte Candy in Lush Coconut
NARS Blush in Deep Throat
By Terry Blackstar Ombre in Bronze Moon (review here)
NARS Volumizing Mascara
Frederic Malle Carnal Flower (review here)
By Terry Baume de Rose (here and here)
Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylo #5 (swatch here)
NARS Velvet Gloss Stick in Happy Days (swatched here)

What do you have in your makeup bag right now? Do you change bags mid-week or do you usually stick to the same purse for longer periods of time?

Inside My Makeup Bag

Mid-December's edition of Inside My Makeup Bag. I've been lugging around quite a bit of makeup in a medium-sized leather zip clutch from Rebecca Minkoff (Neiman Marcus gift with purchase from a few months ago).

MAC Trace Gold Sheertone Shimmer Blush (1) has been a staple for years. It's a shimmering golden bronze. These days I find it to be a versatile bronzer/blush/shimmer highlighter multi-use product. Chanel Les Beiges in No. 20 is my go-to all over setting powder these days. (See review of three shades here, swatches here.)

For skin I've almost used up my third tube of L'Occitane Amande Hand Cream (2). It has a strong sweet floral fragrance so if your nose is super sensitive you may want to check out their regular Shea version instead. My little travel-sized Caudalie Divine Oil (8) is half-way used up, I'll need a replacement for my purse soon. (Previous review here.)

For lips, a current staple lip balm is Jo Malone's Vitamin E Lip Treatment (3). (Reviewed here.) I almost always have a Chanel Glossimer (4) in my bag, right now I have Bon-Bon a sheer light pink gold. Tom Ford Sugar Pink Lip Gloss (5) is a classic hot but sheer pink to add a soft fresh glow to the lips. (Swatched here.) Chanel Rouge Coco Shines are a must-have for everyday swipe-and-go lipsticks. Bel-Ami (12) and Boy (13) layer nicely together.

I've been alternating perfumes almost daily, right now I'm smitten with Bond No. 9 Chinatown Bon-Bon (7).

I've just opened up a fresh tube of NARS Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara (6) which is one of my favorites for volume and holding the curl. I rarely touch-up on eyeshadows during the day but they still manage to find their way into my bag. I have NARS All About Eve (9) and Cordura Duos (14), both are staple neutrals. If I could only have 4 eyeshadow colors these would be it.

Laura Mercier mini brushes from one of her palettes are among the best I've tried for minis (10). I wish more brands made short-handled versions of their brushes to be purse-friendly. Le Metier de Beaute Blush Brush (11) is the perfect size for me without being too small.

Inside My Makeup Bag

I find it amazing how much I can cram into a little makeup pouch. Stacking and layering can make a huge difference in making room inside. This week is what I've had in my makeup bag:

1. Chanel Eyemakeup Remover mini | 2. Caudalie Divine Oil mini size (featured here) | 3. Chanel Stylo Yeux in Espresso (a classic rich brown) | 4. L'Occitane Amande Hand Cream | 5. Guerlain Crazy Paris Terracotta Powder (review here) | 6. Diptyque L'Ombre Dans L'Eau Solid Perfume (review coming soon) | 7. MAC Viva Glam VI Lipglass (a staple)  | 8. Tom Ford Cheek Brush | 9. Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Stretch Mascara (my current favorite mascara) | 10. Jo Malone Vitamin E Lip Balm (review here) | 11. YSL Sheer Candy #12 | 12. Chanel Rouge Coco in Perle (lip swatch here) | 13. Tom Ford Nude Vanille Lipstick (swatched here) | 14. Chanel Le Jour Face Cream mini | 15. Aerin Mini Rose Hand and Body Cream

Inside My Bag

Wallet, iPhone, sugar packet, gum, keys, Balenciaga makeup bag, MAC mini brush, Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Boy, Chanel Graphite Le Vernis, MAC Lightly Prancing Dazzleglass Creme (from Nordstrom's Nude Scene Lip Set), Laura Mercier mini transluscent powder

To those who cannot figure out why there is nail polish in my purse: it's only carried for a short period of time when I go to get my nails done. How else do you carry your nail polish to the salon? I had taken these photos after I went to get my nails done with Chanel Graphite. Hence it's appearance in this feature.

Inside My Chanel

I tend to carry a lot with me in my purse. I accumulate things over the week so by Thursday, the purse of the week is typically chock-full of way too much. So for the woman who carries too much, what's the best way to carry the just essentials? Find a smaller purse. Today's feature will be on what's inside my Vert Fonce (Dark Green) Quilted Caviar Wallet On Chain (I believe this style/color combination is exclusive to Saks).

For those new to Chanel, the Wallet On Chain is exactly that. A larger sized wallet/clutch styled bag put on a chain to be worn over the shoulder. It has a few slots for your id and credit cards plus extra pockets and 2 zippered compartments. It's just the right size for just the essentials: keys, phone, id, money and a lipstick.

Inside mine: Edward Bess Lip Gloss, Chanel Rouge Allure Laque, mini Jo Malone purse spray (received as a GWP from previous beauty event), iPhone, keys, gum + id/cards, cash in the zippered front pocket

The little black case is a leather Jo Malone cologne holder, it came with 2 mini sprays and just so happens to be the perfect size for 1 mini cologne + 1 mini lipstick, I wish more brands did cute GWPs like this with useable cases/bags:

I don't know the last time I carried this little. Even with my pouchettes, I tend to pack them. You can check out these resources for more information on pricing, dimensions, styles, colors, seasons styling ideas here:

Green isn't really a "me" color but the moment I saw it I had to have it. That said, after having this for less than a week - I've found green is new to me for my wardrobe, I have quite a few kelly greens, no army greens yet. I will have to experiment in the upcoming weeks trying to coordinate green with the rest of my wardrobe. It matches the Khaki Vert nail polish perfectly (previously reviewed here), but as mentioned the other day, matching green nails with a green purse = too green. Overall a great going-out bag, perfect for biking on the weekends around the beach, nice for running quick errands, but for everyday - not so practical since I tend to carry a lot more than just the essentials. I'm still in love with the quilted texture.
