Sunday Links and Loves

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you've been enjoying the weekend - we had rainstorms come through here in Southern California but it was brief and the sun is back out today. I've been absolutely obsessed with the Urban Decay UD Gwen Stefani Blush Palette which I promise to review soon. I've been waiting for a couple blush palettes that I ordered to arrive in the mail so I can do a battle of the blush palettes post as there have been a few new ones that launched this year. For face I'm still working my way through foundation testing. So far the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint is my most reached-for formula so far this year. I'll have some thoughts on the Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation and Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation soon.

More on the cheeky front includes glow essentials. I've still been loving the Hourglass Ambient Strobe Powders for a luminous glowy highlight. If you're partial to creams I swatched my holy grail cream highlighters from Edward Bess in Sunlight, Afterglow and Paradise here.

Last week I stopped by Sephora South Coast Plaza for my first beauty appointment in a Sephora store to learn about color correcting. I half dread in-store makeup appointments because of you never know what kind of artist you will be working with. So many have a hard sell approach or load up on colors that really aren't flattering. This visit was hands down the best appointment I've ever had - I worked with Dre and if you're in the area I highly recommend trying to book a sit down with her. I'll have a write up soon on my whole experience. I went in not knowing anything about color correcting and personally thought that using a full coverage foundation could accomplish the same thing in fewer steps. I was so impressed with her knowledge of all the skincare and beauty brands. She was patient in answering all my questions. The results of her application were amazing.

I haven't done a link love post in a while - but here are a few reads and links I've been loving:
P.S. I'm still obsessed with the Maison Martin Martiela Lipstick On fragrance for a soft girly feminine scent. I just got a mini sample of the new Diptyque Eau Des Sens which is the best orange blossom I've ever tried and I am seriously tempted.

Enjoy the last bits of your weekend! Would love to hear about what you're loving right now. I'm behind on responding to comments but will be following up on your questions soon!

  1. I just picked up a few new items and am loving them- Baume de Rose Mauve Moon is that purple lip color I've been looking for forever, and have the MAC Pastels x 9 and new MAC Nordstrom x 15 palette to try out. I also managed to nab one of the new Meteorites, so I'm a pretty happy camper.

I actually took the correct and conceal class today at Sephora. I could've taught it, as it turns out. I've been testing about 14 of the new releases and had a good handle on color theory. I did leave with one of the few products I hadn't bought- Marc Jacobs' stick version.

You'll love the CL lipsticks... I have 11 of them right now. I will give you this warning since you have pigmented lips- hold off on Impera until you can swatch in person unless you want brown. On less pigmented lips, it pulls mauvey. On more pigmented lips, it pulls extremely brown. Also, Tutuelle is concealer lips, even with MAC Lip Erase. I do keep at least 2 of the CLs in my weekly rotation as no-brainer go-tos.

    1. Oooh love love love your picks! I'm so tempted by that new MAC palette but I already own so many it's hard to justify another one. I have the new Meteorites sitting on my desk still in box. I can't wait to try it!

So interesting to hear that you seem to be an expert on correcting and concealing! I'm such a novice - everything was new to me.

Thanks for the tips on the CL :) I really appreciate it since I can't see them in person yet but I adore the sheer red one so much I imagine I'll fall in love with other colors too.

  4. Sabrina, I have enjoyed reading your blog for several years and have tried several of your recommendations. A question for you is how does the new Diptyique Orange blossom scent compare to the Jo Malone Orange blossom? I am always on the lookout for Orange blossom. I appreciate any feedback you have. Thanks.

    1. Hi Lisa! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I don't currently own Jo Malone Orange Blossom. I had a few minis that I got from GWPs and from what I remember I never liked it enough to buy the full bottle. I think I either found it too floral or too citrus - it's one of those scents I love as a home fragrance but can't see myself wearing.

The Diptyque Eau De Sens has an orange blossom feel but has other notes to round it out.

  5. That’s a wonderful post! Loved reading all this Sunday stuff here. Usually I don’t attend any events but last weekend, attended a fashion-n-food event with my mom and sister at local event venues. It was truly a fantastic day spent with them.
