Chanel Séduction 42 Quadra Eyeshadow

Chanel Séduction 42 Quadra Eyeshadow ($59 for 6.8g, 0.24 oz, made in France) is a new eyeshadow palette in the US that has been released as part of the Jeux de Regards collection. The colors in the palette include a warm plum-gold, a soft warm peach, a pale champagne shell and a cool-brown shimmer (all the shades are shimmers). It looks remarkably similar to other Chanel palettes but when I pulled half a dozen to compare, the only one that was actually similar was Éclosion 34 from Spring 2012 (reviewed here). The palette pulls on the warm side on my skin but it's not too warm that it gives the pink-eye look. This is exactly what I wanted NARS Kuala Lumpur to be (which happened to be too warm and gave me pink eyes).

Swatched two ways, first with sponge applicators, below with a brush:

Per request here are some comparisons with swatches. Set one has Giorgio Armani Maestro 5 (discontinued) and Chanel Éclosion. Swatches are taken with a flash so it enhances the shimmer.

Set number 2 has Tom Ford Enchanted (discontinued) and Dolce & Gabbana Contrasts (one of my favorite neutrals, this is my second one).

I wore Chanel Séduction today over Edward Bess Eyeshadow Base in Dune and Suede mixed together on the lids. I applied the plum first, softened with the peach and then highlighted with the pearl. The dark brown shade was smudged over a dark brown pencil liner. The colors stayed put all day without fading or smudging. The pigment is on the medium to soft side but can be layered and intensified if applied with a slightly damp brush. The result was a softly defined plum brown eye look. I highly recommend this palette, however you may want to shop your stash first for similar colors. I hoped the comparisons helped.

Chanel Séduction should be at your local counters now. I found mine at Nordstrom.

  2. Great post and thanks for the comparison swatches - something about these colours really does look familiar. I feel like the beige and brown look like the Sable Emouvant duo - thoughts?

  3. This is beautiful! Such a shame we can't get the non-baked versions here in Europe.. the baked ones are horrible!!

  4. This one really looks nice on your skin tone. On me (Mac NC20-25 with natural undertones) it pulls a little pinkier (thus gives me a stunning rabbit eyes ;-)) Maybe it is the European version of the quad though, after seeing your review now I am willing to try it once more out :-)
Oh and D&G Contrasts look so gorgeous, I should definitely take a look at it. I am hoping it is not discontinued.

  5. I skipped this one because I already own way too many neutrals, but man, look at the depth this quad has! Thanks for the comparison too! I'm going to check my stash for similar shades :)

  7. Thank you for the swatches, I just ordered it from Nordstrom :). The colors look right up my alley and I don't own Éclosion or any of the other quads you compared it with. I'm looking forward to playing with it.

  11. Okay, I bought the GA 05 after I hit the pan - but I do not use it anymore... Glad to see that it is a softer version of the Chanel Quad. The european version of the Chanel Quads keeps me saying What The... they are chalky, I experience fall out, a mess!
I really love the colors of the Chanel Quads and their wonderful glow&glitter, but the quality just do not justify the name (and the price tag, but who cares, it's Chanel...).

  12. Just bought seduction yesterday. Went to my makeup box after reading this and found that I have Eclosion. Sorry I bought Seduction now! Thanks so much for the thorough analysis. :)
