Chanel Le Vernis Summer 2013: Lilis #647, Azuré #657 and Bel-Argus #667

This summer's L’Été Papillon de Chanel collection brings three vibrant options for the nails: Lilis #647, Azuré #657 and Bel-Argus #667 ($27 each, all limited-edition). The color theme of this collection is very different from what Chanel typically designs. As a die-hard Chanel fan I wasn't sure if I would be able to pull off such bold colors for nails but after testing am happy to report that while the colors are edgy they are still wearable.

Lilis 647 is a beautiful peach coral red. It's a mix between Holiday and Distraction making it the perfect blend of coral and pink. It's different enough from other corals from both Dior and Chanel to justify owning.

This one was a bit difficult to photograph for comparisons, I've included two views since the white background + sunlight skews the colors a bit.

Chanel Azuré 657 is a stunning mermaid-like teal. I featured it a few days ago so I won't repost the photos, but you can see it here.

Chanel Bel-Argus 667 is an electric metallic blue. It applied smoothly with minimal visible brush strokes. I was afraid this would be too over the top for me, but was surprised that it's actually wearable.

I don't own anything like it but here are some blues next to Bel-Argus.

I surprised myself by only picking up the three nail polishes from Chanel's summer collection. I might go back for the glossimers. Did you pick up anything from the summer set?

All shades retail for $27 each, all limited-edition. They are at counters now in store and also online at Nordstrom.com as well as Chanel.com.

  1. Yaay, I was waiting for this. I love them all but I think Azure still remains my absolute favourite. Lillis is so pretty too tho, tempting!

  2. This is horrible, but I definitely want all three, particularly Azure and Lilis!

  4. I have my heart set on Lilis. How does it compare to Diablotine (by Dior)? Thanks!

    1. They are similar but different enough to justify both (at least to me).

Chanel Lilis is slightly lighter and softer and has a bit more pink.

Dior Diablotine is sharper and more red with the complex shimmers.

      Both are stunning.

  6. Beautiful photos! I love the look of these three together - they definitely fit in well with the whole butterfly theme :) My favortie is Bel-Argus. At first I thought it was similar to the many other dark, shimmery blues I've seen throughout the years, but I think this one is special and so gorgeous! :)

  7. I think Azure is my favorite, too. It's different than everything else I have. Bel-Argus reminds me of RBL Cuprum--sans the copper shimmer--so still a must have. I was kinda bad a got just about everything from the collection--the new Stylo's are incredible.

  8. Great photos! I picked up Azure and Bel-Argus already, and am seriously contemplating going back for Lilis after painting my nails with Distraction and thinking it was a bit soft for the look I wanted.

I picked up most of this collection already- all of the Stylo eyeshadows, the eyeliner, and the cobalt mascara (Blue Note). This is the most I've ever picked up from a single collection- and I'm thinking of going back for more. The colors and textures just work for me.

    1. Great haul picks! I definitely think Lilis was a hit, I thought it would be just another coral but I really love it.

  10. hi! could you please recommend a base coat and a top coat? i would love to have all 3 but, i think azure will be my choice as jac is wearing it in the chanel summer collection video. so far, i purchased rouge coco shine in idylle and glossimer in envolee. these two have not received the best reviews but, i think they're gorgeous! i'm thinking i'll have to get backups as this will be my "summer lips" until fall. i'm debating over the "eye sticks". i tried moon river and the black shade at my local counter. such an easy and pretty look but, i found them somewhat irritating to my eyes. do not put these on your waterline!! when i removed these my eyelids were very itchy and dry. i would love to see how these compare to bobbi brown's but, their colors vary. have you tried the online exclusive quad metamorphose? to my dismay, it was a dry, chalky mess, no pigmentation, tons of glitter. i suppose with proper primer and adding water application will be better. i just didn't think the price warranted the quality of this quad. i'd love to know if you tried or are going to try this? thankyou very much for your wonderful post (as always)!! xxxxx

    1. Hi Wendy - for Chanel, I like to use Deborah Lippmann's Rehydrating Base Coat and Chanel's Top Coat or Rescue Beauty Lounge. You can see more details in this post here:

      Hope this helps!

  11. They're all beautiful colors. I picked up all three. Lilis has such a great formula, with wonderful pigment in just one coat and a creme/jelly finish. Azure is my favorite because it's the most unique color in the collection. Bel-Argus is pretty but it's pretty similar to China Glaze's Want My Bawdy, only brighter and with larger silver bits. It's also a bit sheer, requiring three coats for full coverage.

  12. I saw these in-store last week (the lovely sales associate gave me a sneak peek) and they were gorgeous! Think I'll be picking up Bel Argus next month when the collection is released here in Toronto. Thanks for the swatches! xo

  13. Absolutely stunning! I love your swatch of Azuré -- it does have a mermaid appeal, doesn't it?! I also picked up the 3 ... plus a whole slew of other items from this collection - although something tells me that I'll be going back for more!

  14. I bought Azure but it didn't work for me so I'm going to get another Taboo instead.

  20. Thank you for these beautiful photos. How does Lilis compare to Riviera and Psychedelic orange (by Dior) ? Thanks!

  21. I bought Azure 657. Love teal, but was sure I could rock that color on my nails. Wow! It is so much fun....so different, so unique. Driving home from work late afternoon, the sun really caught the nail polish and I was completely transfixed on the drive home...it turned into butterfly wings. Extreme wow factor in the sunshine! I was shocked at the complexity.

Love your swatches and nails. Thank you for all of your hard work.

Also adore Lilis 647, but I had recently purchased Nars Pierre Hardy duo Vertebra - 3612 and the orange shade from that set looks so much like Lilis. I wish I had purchased Lilis instead. I like Nars nails polish, but it is very thick and I have just a bit of trouble applying it well. Chanel polishes go on much easier and smoother for me. However, the Nars, once applied properly, does seem to last longer and not chip as fast as the Chanel polish does. Trade-off.
