Dior Iridescent Leather #539

Dior Iridescent Leather (#539) 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette was released as a limited-edition item for fall 2008 with the Dandy Lady collection. It is possibly one of the most glorious beautiful palette of shimmery neutrals that has ever been released. I know many have pined over this one if they missed out. The good news is that this is back for a limited time in very limited quantities. It's available now in the US as an exclusive to the Dior Boutique in Vegas at the Palazzo, Saks stores and Saks.com (check the drop-down function online).

The palette now retails for $60 for 6g/0.21 oz (back in 2008, it retailed for $54). All the shades are highly metallic but still easy to wear. On me it's a warmer neutral, but on darker skins this pulls more cool-toned. I haven't done a side-by-side swatch comparison of the original versus the new, but the shades do appear to be identical (they also have the same number).

Since I've already featured this before, I won't be re-doing detailed swatches. I did however try to pull a few comparisons to shades from Urban Decay's Naked palettes. I could not find any dupes but you can probably get a similar effect with Urban Decay Sin, Virgin, Suspect, YDK and Darkhorse.

For additional reference, here are some prior posts that might help along with some swatches/photos from other blogs/sites:
  • Here is Iridescent Leather compared to Edward Bess Cosmic Bliss
  • Here is Iridescent Leather compared to Dior Earth Reflection and Dior Rosy Tan
  • Swatches are featured on Karla Sugar
  • Swatched on darker skin at Makeup and Beauty Blog

Quantities are very limited to (I recommend you buy sooner than later):
  • The Dior Boutique in Vegas at the Palazzo ask for Massiel at (702)-734-1102
  • Saks stores and Saks.com (check the drop-down function online)
Happy shopping/hunting!

  1. Hi Sabrina, Iridescent Leather is such a beautiful quint! I definitely recall admiring it from some of your previous swatch comparisons. It's nice to see a great limited edition brought back --- I wish brands would do that more often.

  2. it's a true classic I am glad to have. I like how you compared it with UD Naked, but personally I prefer Dior's textures

  3. Oh I do not believe this!
A friend returned yesterday from his visit to US (visited Vegas, specifically). Why, Dior, why couldn't you release it a couple of weeks earlier?
I am so going to find a way and get this, thank you for the heads-up :)

    1. You should call the Vegas boutique, they sometimes offer free shipping with certain spend amounts, I recommend getting on Massiel's email list, she will email you in advance of new upcoming releases.

  4. This is such great news! I've been swooning over this one but I missed out on it back in the days. Not sure if it will be available here tho but I see it's close to Cosmic Bliss so I might pick that one up instead! ^^

  5. This really should be a permanent item. I was lucky enough to buy it back in 2008 and I have used it sparingly. It's the best one Dior ever made. I adore it! Thanks for featuring the return of Iridescent leather--you have exquisite taste ;-)

    1. I'm not sure. I would suggest checking with your closest neimans counter. I heard from my Dior contact that this would be exclusive to the palazzo boutique and saks, but I'm not sure about future releases.

  9. What a lovely surprise! I wish all brands would do something like this every now and then. Still kicking myself for not getting chanel turbulent and dior crush glow when I had the chance.

  10. Hi Sabrina, Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting about this! I missed the opportunity to own this when it was initially released, and have suffered from jealous longing each time I read a blog post that referenced this quint ever since. I am happy to say that I was able to call my local (and soon to close) Saks to get this for myself :)
As a long time reader and a first time commenter I would like to thank you for your excellent blog. I really appreciate your outstanding photographs and thoughtful and insightful comments about all things beauty. My beauty purchases have been very successful over the past several years thanks to you! I have also enjoyed working with the fabulous Nikki at Dolce & Gabbana Houston for several years, even though I'm in Dallas, and shopped Burberry Beauty in the OC shortly after its introduction while on a weekend there thanks to your posts and recommendations!
I hope that you will continue your blog for a long time, even though I know that it requires an extraordinary amount of effort.
Thank you again from a very grateful reader!

  11. At first look, I thought I HAD to have this! But after seeing the comparison swatches with some of the UD Naked Palette shades, I think I will pass. The quint is definitely gorgeous but I am already purchasing Giorgio Armani's new Mirage palette and possibly Burberry's Mocha so I think I will lay off on this particular neutral palette :P

  12. My gf is obsessed with this, glad to see it is coming back out. Now if I can only get my hands on as many as possible. Sounds pretty limited, but thanks for the info.

  13. I'm going to pretend like this post never happened... I have actually considered purchasing this quint on eBay before for much more $$. But like Becca above, I also recently purchased the GA Mirage palette and Chanel Refinement AND Edward Bess Cosmic Bliss, so I obviously need to stop... The comparison swatches to the UD shadows make me feel a lot better though.

  14. Thank you so much for this post. I bought this quint back when it was just released and loved it so much I actually hit the pan on each of the shades. Then when I went to buy another one it had been discontinued. I had no idea it was being released again and I immediately went out to the Saks website and bought one. It is truly one of the most beautiful palettes ever made and I don't think anyone would be disappointed purchasing it. Thanks again Sabrina, you made my day!

    1. Liz, I'm glad this helped, I hate it when I hit pan on something and find that it's discontinued. Although there are similarities with UD naked and some others, I agree that it's a must have and think anyone could fall in love with it and find it special :)

  15. When it first came out, I missed it. This has been #1 on my wish list forever and I thought I'd never be able to get one. I hoped getting Lunasol Chocolate Cosmos and Chanel Refinement could satisfy me but no…. I was not 100% satisfied. Thanks to your posting, I finally got mine today and I am in love with this.

Even though UD and Dior #539 look about the same (I have both Naked Palettes.), I’d say Dior #539 felt much velvety.

Thank you again for your posting!

  16. Please tell me if Dior Iridescent Leather is the warmer sister of Earth Reflection. Recently purchased the latter & awaiting arrival. Have chance to purchase Iridescent Leather & wondering if worth the purchase. If it is the warmer sister, than believe it is worth it. Also, love Burberry single eyeshadows. They provide a subtle, everyday complement to my Dior, shimmery palettes. Have yet to find a brand with both the complexity & blendability of these two brands (love Chanel palettes, but they can be hit or miss for me, and the amount of shadow is less than Dior & Burberry). Want a Burberry palette while still available. Do you recommend Pale Nude or Pink Taupe as a more subtle palette for my neutral collection? (Of course want both...we'll see;-)).Thank you for your wonderful site. Love the swatches & reviews. I can always count on you to provide reviews for makeup that flatters mature eyes and skin. Look forward to your response!
