Edward Bess Cosmic Bliss Prismette Eyeshadow Quad

Edward Bess Cosmic Bliss Prismette Eyeshadow Quad is every taupe-lover's dream come true ($68 for 0.25 oz/7g). Some have chosen this one as their favorite of the three quads that Edward has released (I agree too). I particularly loved the reviews, reader comments and swatches on Best Things in Beauty and Café Makeup.

Cosmic Bliss has four beautiful neutrals: a creamy all-over-base shade, a soft shimmery beige taupe (same as his Intimate single shadow), a darker taupe shimmer with a very slight hint of mauve, and a dark chocolatey taupe shimmer with reddish tones. The palette is effortless and gives a gorgeous polished look. The shades are shimmery but on the eyes it applied more subtle - it has a luminous glow rather than a shimmery frost. Those who are scared of shimmer need not worry about this one. It's very natural (but not too natural).

I love that it's extremely versatile. The texture of the shades is amazing. The colors themselves are very pigmented but texture is soft and easy to blend. Each color is layerable and easy to control so you can create a soft subtle look or a more intense neutral smokey eye.

At first glance it reminded me of a less-frosty version of Dior's long-discontinued Iridescent Leather (at least discontinued in the US). I pulled it out to compare along with Intimate and Burberry's Pale Barley. You can see below some similar qualities but that the Edward Bess Cosmic Bliss has a more subdued finish.

Swatches, two views: top without flash, bottom with flash + sunlight

I find Edward Bess's Cosmic Bliss beautiful and a must-have staple. It's easy to apply and versatile enough to incorporate into any look. I used it with the following items recently:

I purchased mine from Bergdorf Goodman. It is also available online at Bergdorfs, Neimans and Sephora.com along with a few select locations such as Sephora in NYC and Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills.

  1. Hi Sabrina, what a gorgeous quad! The inner two colors look exceptionally pretty. I really enjoyed the 'look' photo you put at the end too :)

  3. I'm adding this to my eye palette lust list!! Love how you described the finish as a luminous glow...sounds exactly what I've been looking for. Lover's Desire gloss looks nice...how do you like EB gloss?

  4. Cosmic Bliss has quickly become my go-to palette for those times when I want a sculpted look with a touch of subtle luminescence. The nude is a satin-matte that provides a smooth and even base for the other colors which all apply effortlessly and can be blended seamlessly, one into the other. The three darker color have just enough shimmer to provide the colors with complexity and depth rather than overt iridescence or sparkle as your thoughtful comparison swatches clearly illustrate. Without being gimmicky or razzel-dazzel, Cosmic Bliss creates a chic and refined look that is simply stunning. This would make a good introduction to Edwards's eyeshadows for anyone who is new to the line because it so perfectly captures his esthetic. For those of us who are already fans, this is a must have :-)

  7. Is this warmer toned than the Dior Iridescent Leather palette? I thought it was such a pretty palette, but Leather was just a tad too cool toned to work on me.

    1. Hi Beth I do think the Edward Bess is warmer than Dior's Iridescent leather which makes the EB easier to wear.

  10. Happy New Year Sabrina!

    Quick question-

Do I need Chanel Raffinement AND Cosmic Bliss? I know you're very busy, but if you could compare them that would be amazing! If not thank you, anyway! I probably need both, don't I ? ;-D

    1. Hi Lori - I will try to do a comparison soon :) I think the shimmers in Raffinement are more shimmery. There are also lighter shades.

EB's is darker and more on the neutral side.

  11. I'm not really a taupe gal - I think the tone doesn't look as amazing on my skintone as it does someone more fair - but this palette is gorgeous! I have never tried Edward Bess and haven't been as tempted to until now. Thanks for the review, Sabrina!

  12. Hello miss!! I absolutely love your blog. I have the same skintone and your swatches are infinitely helpful. How does this compare to Chanel's raffinement? I was drooling over that until you posted this, now I'm torn! Would you recommend one over the other? Thanks and keep up the smashing work!

  14. Hello Sabrina, I am a huge makeup junkie and I absolutely love your blog posts! Your comparisons and swatches are really helpful. Just one question, I am planning on buying an Edward Bess palette and I don't know which one to pick. I have the same skintone as you. Which palette would you say is a must have for Edward Bess? Thank you and look forward to your upcoming posts! :)

  15. I was debating among the three new quads and initially thought Comic Bliss would be too sheer. It doesn't look like so based on your swatches. I think this is the one! Lovely review, as always.
