What's Your Look With a Little Black Dress?

I wanted to know what look you all go for with a black dress! I had a lunch date with a few friends over the weekend, so I pulled out one of my cotton black dresses for my outfit of the day. This one was pretty casual (from Ella Moss), so I kept the rest of the look very simple and light with a soft smokey eye.

Dress: Ella Moss
Shoes: D&G
Purse: LV Epi Jasmin

I'm a huge fan of Ella Moss because the clothes are so soft and comfy. This one is borderline maternity material b/c of the high waistline but it was so lightweight and soft I didn't care. I love the concept of the little black dress because virtually everything will go with black. I still have yet to find a good semi-formal all black dress, most of mine are really casual.

This was my look with the little black dress:

Face:
MAC Stereo Rose

Eyes:
NARS Goddess Soft Touch Pencil as a base
NARS Aigle Noir smudged to line
VS Sultry Quad (darker shades) for a smokey eye

Lips:
Chanel Flirt Rouge Allure
Chantecaille Sweet Lipgloss

Do you have a favorite look with a LBD?

  1. That NARS Goddess pencil looks great - do you think it is comparable to Benefit's Gilded (am trying to find a dupe, since they discontinued it!)

  2. For a casual LBD, I like wearing my chunky turquoise necklace to give the look some color.

How is the staying power of the NARS Aigle Noir pencil? Does it crease/fade by the end of the day? The color looks so pretty and I wear smokey mu often so I think I kinda need it...

  3. I have a similar black dress but mine is from Mango. I love it to death and wear it quite often to work (under a long cardigan). If it's sunny I like to wear it with sandals and if it isn't - tights/flats.

Because my outfit is so neutral I really have to decide on my makeup mood. Do I want a high impact lip/neutral eyes or the opposite? 9 out of 10 times I'll want to do the neutral smoky eye for work and slick milky pink lips. I think it's because it's for work and I can crank that out in 15mns! But for date nights I pull out the red lipstick with the neutral shadows/thin black eyelined top lid.

You just can't go wrong with the LBD. It looks great with a sexy red heel, too.Have you seen the latest Barbie collection? They are all very fashionable and they are wearing different versions of the LBD. The 9 year old in me wants them all!

  6. that's a lovely dress but the sandals are fabulous!!! i am quite surprise to see how pigmented VS Sultry is on your arm. many people told me VS doesn't make good makeup. *_*

  8. Very pretty! Late to the party as usu, but LBD day = soft mu, slightly messy/natural (understyled hair); LBD night = stronger cheek, may tone down eye to not look overdone or will simply add a stronger line of eyeliner for a crisper look to the eyes.

  9. I love your blog and your well-thought out outfits!

How did you find the VS eyeshadow? Those are some very pretty colors but I heard VS eyeshadows aren't very pigmented.
