Do You Have a Beauty Emergency Kit?

Last week I had one of those days where I had a million things to do during the day with no time to stop by home before a special occasion dinner. I packed my car with my laptop, papers, textbooks, backpack, purse, a change of clothes and an extra pair of shoes (to transition from day to night) but neglected to pack my makeup bag and brushes to touch up.

Luckily, I had my Edward Bess Compact Rouge in Island Rose (for lips/cheeks) and a mini Diorshow mascara tucked away in my backpack which was enough to freshen my look a bit. But it made me realize I needed to put together an emergency beauty kit to keep in my car for those times I need a last-minute touch up or days I forget to bring my makeup bag with me.

I looked to one of my favorite beauty books by Trish McEvoy "The Power of Makeup" for her tips on what to include in a beauty emergency kit. This is what I put together for my own using my trusty quilted planner:

  • Trish McEvoy Power of Makeup Simply Chic Page (Pink Innocence Lip + Cheek, Nude Innocence Lip + Cheek, Golden Peach AOC, Peony Pink Blush, Sand/Pink Shimmer/Snow/Blackberry Eyeshadows)
  • Laura Mercier Eyemakeup Remover
  • Edward Bess Love Always Deep Shine Lipgloss
  • NARS Luxor Multiple
  • Diorshow Mini Mascara
  • MAC Fix + (travel size)
  • Chanel DPF Compact
  • Chanel Spices Quadra Eyeshadow
  • MAC Cremestick Lipliners in Sublime Culture and Beurre
  • Chanel Ebene Waterproof Eyeliner
  • Laura Mercier Brown Copper Eye Kohl
  • Chantecaille Crystalline Gloss
  • Shu Uemura Tweezers
  • A bunch of mini brushes

My so-called "emergency kit" turned out to be quite a bit more than I intended. It's probably the equivalent to a travel kit or a weekend-away kit. Yes, I am rather high maintenance, so this will probably be a work in progress. But at least I know that by having this tucked away in my car, I will always be well prepared to touch up, redo or refresh my makeup and not have to worry about finding the time to try and get back to the house before a last minute appointment or spur of the moment evening out.

Do you have a beauty emergency kit? What do you have inside yours?

  1. I just have a small Marc Jacobs cosemtic bag that holds many lipliners, a few travel sized eyeliners, glosses, and a lipstick. i also have my NARS albatross highlight powder, a travel sized MAC blush brush and many perfume samples. I guess I got some organzing to do, huh?

You did offer great ideas and tips. I love that organizer!

  2. I keep a slim makeup pouch with me at all times, stocked with a tube of tinted sunscreen, black eyeliner pencil, lipstain marker, and a travel size Clinique shadow quad of shimmery neutrals. These are multitasking basics that keep me prepared for almost anything: I can be sun-proofed, even out my complexion, do a simple or dramatic eye, and brighten my lips and cheeks with the stain.

When I have time at home to prep for special events, I use many more products, but it's surprisingly simple to adapt with just this kit.

  4. oh darling those are such lux product to keep for emergencies! be wary of hot hot weather, it can and will ruin makeup :(

  5. No, but I really need one!!! Would've been perfect this morning as I was running late *again.* I'm fairly low maintenance after I put my makeup on in the morning so usually all I carry around are blotting sheets, lipstick and lip balm. =/

I've but together two UNII palettes (warm + cool) and I think I could stash one of them in my purse along with a mini sample of my foundation (I do carry powder sunscreen with me so that'll work as setting power in a pinch), and I have a couple mascara minis, but I haven't figured out a solution for brow powder, primers or BRUSHES! I have been looking for a cute, affordable face/eye brush set for forever! Might have to check out the new EcoTools eye makeup one actually...

Hmm, I actually do have a mini UDPP, so that could be ok. Not sure what to do about my paintpot though (and I really do need both layered everyday). I figure I probably also need a lash curler and I wish I could find a cheaper alternative to Anastasia's brow powder duo (it seems a little silly to keep one just for emergencies). Maybe when I'm almost done with this one and get a new one I'll put it in my emergency kit.

  6. Not much in mine, but I think you've inspired me to add more! Eyelash curler, translucent powder, blush, mascara, and eyeliner, plus 1 retractable powder brush is all I have right now. I've had issues with items melting (in car) or exploding (on plane) so I have difficulty trusting liquids and creams for travel.

  7. I like that you didn't include any cream products other than the multiple, a car will melt makeup to pieces. Great planing!

Can you tell us what you like about "Power of Makeup?" I haven't seen this one and, as usual, you have me thinking...

  12. I don't keep anything in my car due to potential heat and melting issues but I do keep some items at work. Pressed powder, balm and a few glosses.

I love your little kit, it's so neat and organized!

  13. I've really cut back on my backup makeup kit. I have Nars mini lipgloss duo in Striptease/Dolce Vita, Aquaphor for lips, Almay powder, blotting tissues, sephora kohl eyeliner, and a Revlon concealer.

  14. Great idea! I did this also.

4 lip liners (Spice, Whirl, Soar and P&J Caramel) all a bit different to change any lipstick

Becca Shimmer powders in Angel and Nefertiti

    Voluminous mascara

Chantecaille Rosewood, Tea Rose and LMdB Thailand lippies

Glosses in Get Rich Quick and Chanel 93 (can't remember the name)

    Edward Bess bronzer

I keep all of these safely at work...they would be goners ina hot car!

  15. i only carry a lip product with me. i'd be worried about all these makeup dies under the heat. it will be a perfect on the go kit in the bag, not in the car.your kit looks great though!

  16. I love the Trish McEvoy makeup organiser, I purchased her previous organiser & i still have it 2 years on!

  17. I have just 2 lippies and probably a pressed powder to touch up. I've made the mistake of putting my MAC lipsticks in the car. They melted in within half an hr. :(

  18. My Evening Kit as I call it contains:

    Chanel Smokey Eyes Quad
    A random black pencil eyeliner
    Chanel Trial Exceptionnel mascara
Nars Velvet Lip Pencil in Cruella (red)
    A clear l/g
    Gold cream e/s

I always have a daily bag that I can play with but with smokey eyes, a gold wash and a red lipstick; I can tackle the evening without issue.

  19. I have also had lipstick melt in the car although up here in Maine it is only an issue for a few months. I guess I would keep it in my desk if possible, but if you are not desk bound I would just keep a couple of things in my purse, small bare minerals foundation and blusher and radiance and a lip color or two (okay, there are like 8 in my bag now.). THe great thing about the small powders is that you can empty and refill. Maine is really casual though -- I only know two restaurants where men have to wear jackets and women are encouraged to dress up. So as long as I wasn't a mess I would not freak.

  20. Great kit!! ♥
Mine isn't as organized or pretty, but I always carry around some essentials that especially includes concealer, blush, black eyeliner and lipgloss!
If I have those items I can look super fresh in two minutes ;)

  24. Hello! I know this is an old post but I hope you'll answer me anyways.
Is that the petite or the mini Trish McEvoy organizer? I managed to find a seller but from the pictures i can't really tell which one is better for my needs and yours looks perfect.
    Thank you!

    1. Hi Beatrice, I believe this is the largest one they make. The petite/mini are quite a bit smaller, but the ones I have are from at least a couple years ago. I know she releases a new variation almost every year or so. I haven't checked out anything from her brand in a while so I'm not quite up to speed on what her latest is.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
