Beauty Edited

This will be a short post today. I just finished studying a case on Dove including the history of their brand and marketing campaigns they launched. I don't want to get into a full on discussion of the pros and cons of their Campaign for Real Beauty, but I watched a series of their videos on their website and YouTube and thought I'd share this with you in case you haven't seen it.

The film was released back in 2006. I think it has a great message. It should make us all feel better about ourselves and not be so critical of our own looks. Yes, I know we all know the majority of advertising is photoshopped, but this film brought a new light to the meaning of the term for me. You have to see it to understand it.

I don't expect everyone to like this, but just wanted to share with those who are either feeling a bit down or have young daughters. Kudos to Dove for launching this.

Awesome post and film. I find myself growing more and more frustrated at the "art" of photoshopping and the creation of unrealistic expectations!

My daughter and I both thank you for posting this. I need take part on that healthy image project of theirs. I do not want my 19 month old daughter growing up the way I did - dieting by age 10 - cursing my dark skin at 11....

Yes! I saw this when it aired originally. It's funny, I just ran into it the other day while surfing! Still pretty fantastic!

Lexi & Anonymous - also check out the videos on Dove's website, I'll link it here.

They are very touching.

For the Anonymous Commenter - Being a teenager isn't easy for anyone. I don't know what I can say to make you feel better, but trust me it gets better once you're out of high school. The best way to cope is to look to the future and focus on getting into college. If I were to do high school all over again, I wouldn't care what others thought and I'd be less self conscious of myself.

Oh, about the high school thing ... I wouldn't also repeat that time ever again. IT was awful and thank God it's over :D

And I agree with you Sabrina that it gets better after you're on collage or at least finished with high school. Today I so don't care what other people think of me unless they are my family (parents and brother) or my boyfriend. :)
